The players who could leave:
Friday 15th December 2023
Don’t forget last Summer Erol Bulut brought in nine new players and many on good wages as he was fully backed by Chairman Dalman.
Erol Bulut has now been with the Bluebirds seven months.
As with any transfer window, particularly one in which Cardiff would like to make big strides in strengthening their squad, there will be collateral damage.
There are financial considerations at play here as at all clubs in the Championship , too, there is a reason why chairman Mehmet Dalman said his No.1 priority in the new year is to ensure the club comply with Financial Fair Play rules. Cardiff will have to make way and free up some of the budget if they are to recruit the requisite quality to turn them into credible play-off candidates in the final few months of the season.
It is why Bulut has almost laughed off links to Anastasios Bakasetas and Salih Ucan, believing Cardiff have nowhere near the funds available to countenance such
A quick look at the players with the fewest minutes under Bulut tells its own story, really. Romaine Sawyers, Andy Rinomhota and Ebou Adams all appear to be at risk of leaving the club next month. With Cardiff looking to add a midfielder, and with Siopis, Wintle, Ralls and Ramsey already at the club, something has to give with the stockpile of central midfielders.
Adams has never really had a true crack of the whip owing to his injury last year, so it might be worth persevering with him still as a back-up option, but even he, at 27 and coming into his peak years, must want game-time.
Bulut is unafraid to make bold calls. He brazenly said of the squad: "We have to put the level higher. Our level is already a level up, so some players will have a problem with that, and we need to go up another level.”
Cardiff will once again try to get Vontae Campbell out of the club, that we can say with certainty. He won't be featuring for the first team and is 22 now, he needs to find a new club. Goalkeeper Rohan Luthra who Slough Town sent back after a loan spell there , winger Kieron Evans who was told to find another club last August , midfielder Cameron Antwi, right-back Jai Semenyo and youngsters Joel Colwill and Cian Ashford, who are training with the first team, will all be considered for loan exits.
The only other real consideration is Panzo, and it might throw a spanner in the works regarding the recruitment plan. He has been unfortunate to see McGuinness and Goutas strike up a wonderful partnership — they are arguably the most important two people in the squad at the moment — and he has had to sit on the bench and watch.
He has played just 77 minutes of Championship football, having featured heavily for Coventry City last season, and Nottingham Forest will have expected more than that, surely. There are still games to go until January, though. Bulut will hope for no injuries or issues with his defenders, but Panzo's time might come between now and then.
Goalkeeper Runarsson could be sent back with many fans agreeing, but Runarsson seems to be Buluts favourite goalkeeper??
