Furious Erol Bulut to speak with goal-shy Cardiff City players as 'connections' between them lost

Bulut also blames the referee.

The Bluebirds are in a poor run of form at the moment, though, and Bulut knows he has to speak to some of his players in order to turn their fortunes around before the end of 2023.

An angry Erol Bulut said he will have to speak to his Cardiff City players to solve their lack of "connection" as he blasted them for playing with too much individuality in the 1-0 defeat by Birmingham City.


“The first 45 minutes I think we did quite good things," he said. "Second half, we don’t need to speak about. It was not what we want to be about. There was a reason, because 45 plus three, the referee didn't whistle the game and added 45 seconds. This is another thing, we have to continue to be concentrated not to allow the opponent to score if the referee is not whistling.”


"Second half we made some changes, but that was nothing how we were planning to play. We planned but we didn't do it. It was mostly individual actions, everybody tried to do something alone, to score the goal, but alone we cannot do anything, we have to do it as a team. Second half was not how we wanted to show the supporters."



There was some controversy surrounding Bacuna's winner. There appeared to be a foul on Kion Etete at the other end of the pitch, while the two minutes of additional time had already been played, too.

“The game was already finished. It was already over the time at the corner," Bulut said of the goal.

"I don’t understand why he continued with the game. It was not a reason – it was a foul or throw-in or nothing. I asked the fourth official and he said he didn’t know. So, what do I do now? It’s not the first time we talked about this."

Cardiff have five more games, including the one away to QPR on New Year's Day, until they can start dealing in the transfer window. That's 15 available points.


“The transfer window is another point," he added. "We have these players and they have to give everything to stay good in the table. You have to fight until the end. I have to speak to some of my players and I hope we’re going to fix it."

“We were playing well in the first half. The opponent will only score with counter-attacks against them. We made our meetings about that so everybody knew that. Even if the referee is not whistling, we cannot stop. It was five against two, you can’t let them score there."

The ref was poor at times, some of his decision making was questionable. It’s about time the league looked into their officials and did something about it. As for blaming the players, he’s right, there’s only so much as a manager Bulut can do, it’s down to the lads on the pitch to work together and get the job done. We definitely need fresh legs in the squad though

in regards of the ticket prices, i took my mother last night, its a passion we share watching Cardiff, we paid £27/£28 for each ticket (can't remember which) its around £13.2 i think for 1 return to cardiff on the train, so another £26 there, just before christmas, the price all adds up.

but as for last night, so much wrong, i've been very vocal over the years about not having "wingers" playing. a few times last night, ball would go to the full back, he'd look ahead of him, and it would of been "grant/Meite" on either wing, were narrow and offering no width. so the ball went back along the back 4, very slow.

i don't mind passing it out from the back, i'm okay with that, but 85 on the clock, 1-0 down at home, and Runarsson is passing the ball 5 yards to a defender infront of him. surely at that point they should be launching the ball forward and getting bodies in the box.

I don’t blame the manager to be furious. Sometimes fans jump on a manager for blaming the players, but look at Manchester United! Manager after manager and players take no accountability for their performances.

Let’s hope for better in the next couple of games.

Depends, sometimes hoofing the ball up when you need to win is just another way of losing possession and giving the opposition time on the ball and you’re back defending again.

In this case, I’d rather the GK give the ball out to our outfield players, they just need to be better with the ball.

The most worrying part of Bulut's comments is “The first 45 minutes I think we did quite good things.".........We were absolutely shocking.

The players need to take some responsibility for that performance and the performances against Norwich, WBA, Southampton and Millwall, but the main blame must stop with Bulut.

He picked the teams
He set the formations
He decided the tactics
He decided the substitutions
He picked Runnarson
He takes the training sessions (or tells his coaches what to do)
He is the Manager.

My message to Bulut - Stop blaming the players and referees, grow a pair, and start taking some responsibility for the extremely poor performances in last 5 or 6 games.

Do you think he's mentioned to people about them not being here in January and people are downing tools? Why else mention the transfer window and people "fighting till the end" or maybe there's arguments or disruption in the camp?

That's the best decision he made on the pitch last night, some fans would have given him verbal abuse.

We don't normally agree but your right he isn't scared to make changes, a lot of these players are going through the motion's and it's the player that Bulut hasn't brought in , Jan we need a freshening up of the squad

It's all too slow. Passing is pedantic, movement is the same. Rolling the ball back and fro across the back four.

He probably walked straight off cos right on half time some supporters give him some verbal behind the goal in the canton , he turned around to see who was saying it and looked proper pissed off

First 45 mins we did ok, but still poor in the final third. They had 11 men behind the ball most the game so was going to be tough to get clear chances.

My gripe is that lack of balls into the box, its too slow. A few of the boys can be a nice deep cross in, i think we had to wait till the end of the second half to see them
