Birmingham City have at least 7 players out injured:
Plus Brum have only won one match in their last 9 matches.
Dion Sanderson
Injury: Foot
Sanderson lost his ever-present record in Blues' defence at Coventry due to a freak foot injury. Speaking about it after the game, Rooney said: “He woke up through the night with a real bad pain in his foot. We’re expecting him to be fit next week. It’s a strange one, we’re trying to get to the bottom of exactly what that is.”
Cody Drameh
Injury: Ankle
Drameh's issue is more straightforward. The on-loan Leeds United defender picked up an ankle injury in Blues' final training session before the Coventry game. Rooney explained: “Cody rocked his ankle right at the end of training yesterday. We were giving him until this morning to see if he was available today. We will know more over the next 24 hours with Cody.”
George Hall
Injury: Hamstring
Hall returned to training in early November after two months out with a hamstring injury and played two games for the under-21s to build up his fitness. After a small setback, Hall started a match for the U21s against Barnsley last week but it ended badly.
“George is injured again, so he will be out for another six to eight weeks. His other hamstring,” Rooney said. "We have been really careful with George so it’s very frustrating. We know he’s a very talented player. He played 82 minutes in the under-21s and he felt his opposite hamstring to the one that has been injured, and we scanned it. He will be out again.”
The enormously talented teenager has only played 58 minutes of first team football since April due to four separate hamstring injuries. Hall hasn’t been able to build on the brilliant breakthrough season which saw him crowned Blues’ Young Player of the Year in May.
Ethan Laird
Injury: Hip adductor
Influential Blues right-back Laird is set for another extended spell on the sidelines. The injury Laird picked up against Rotherham wasn’t initially thought to be serious, but scans revealed some damage in the hip region and he will miss Blues’ busy festive period.
“It’s not great,” Rooney said (December 6). “Ethan will probably be (out for) a couple of months.” Laird has already missed two months of football due to a hamstring injury this term.
Kevin Long
Injury: Calf
Long has missed Blues' last five matches after injuring his calf in training before the Sunderland match. The Irishman still hasn't returned to training. “Longy is still a couple of weeks away," said Rooney on December 7.
Keshi Anderson
Injury: Hamstring
Anderson suffered a bad hamstring injury against QPR on September 22 and is approaching three months out the team. The 28-year-old could boost Blues over the festive period after Rooney revealed that he is due to return to training imminently. "Keshi Anderson and Tyler Roberts will hopefully train with us next week," the Blues manager said (December 7).
Tyler Roberts
Injury: Calf
Roberts completed pre-season, despite having to manage a groin complaint towards the end of it, and started the opening day draw with Swansea City. He was withdrawn after 60 minutes and rested for the Carabao Cup victory over Cheltenham Town.
