“ Another manager sacked “

Sun Dec 10, 2023 5:16 pm

Alex Neil has been sacked as Stoke City manager.

The Potters have not won in their last six games and have lost each of their last four.

They currently sit in 20th place, just two points above the bottom three. This is despite pre-season optimism of a top six place.

Doesn't take much to get the sack in this division, does it? I'd love to know how much it costs/year to sack all these managers!

It's a very tough division.

It costs Stoke quite a lot because they do it very regularly!!

It’s cost Tan a fortune over the years as well

Former Stoke City captain John Eustace will be one of the front-runners with the bookies in the race to become the club's next manager.

Alex Neil has this evening left his post as Stoke manager following a 1-0 defeat to struggling Sheffield Wednesday, a fourth loss in a row which has seen his side fall to 20th in the Championship. He is understood to have met joint-chairman John Coates at Clayton Wood this morning and ended his 16-month reign at the club he was brought in to re-shape.

Stoke had lured Neil from Sunderland in August 2022 to replace Michael O'Neill, tasked with overseeing a major long-term project - but he always needed enough results in the short-term to maintain the consent of supporters and board to see it through. The home form in particular never met that standard.

Maybe Alex Neil can go back to Sunderland.

I'm sure they'd welcome him back with open arms after they way he left them for Stoke.

Another one of those managers whomanage to get decent jobs without really being any good.
