32 year old Jamie Arnold has been jailed for 6 months and received a 7 year football banning order, for racially abusing Rio Ferdinand. At a time when judges are being instructed not to jail rapists because the jails are rammed. Is this a disproportionately harsh sentence for words, no matter how obnoxious?

Ridiculous really,massive fine and loads community work as well as the banning orders.

It is definitely disproportionate, especially considering sentences for other, more serious crimes.

He was already on a Suspended Sentence Order. Given that, I totally agree with this disposal.

It means he goes to jail if he commits the crime again and that is what has happened to him.

As i understand it, the regurgitation of the suspended sentence made up just one month of the 6 month sentence recieved. Unless i read the article wrong.

Anyway, i think the point is, these sort of misdemeanours are disproportionate when compared to other more serious crimes. I think Jock is correct to flag it up
