I recall us having the a Floodlight behind us. I see one Floodlight but I'm sure there were 2 with the other one in the opposite corner. Also we had no cover.

Correct Ian,
Even the streets around the ground were intimidating

I worked in a pub in East London in the late 80's while at Uni,proper West Ham boozer, locals took me under their wing and looked after me
They took me to the Den for the Millwall game, wow an experience isn't the phrase.

Went there four times with the city, (late 70's early 80's) we were always behind the goal, we had half of the stand. I remeber one year we were put into a specially made cage.

First visit in about '73.
Cant remember any fences then but I think we must have been in the top right hand corner of the photograph- started one place, ended up behind the goal near the corner flag.
What larks!

I remember my first visit there in 77 vividly. Absolutely bonkers place and mad people. Not sure about the fences but I remember them coming round the terracing with little restriction so there must have been open gates at the very least. The away end was in the foreground of that picture / bottom with the only seated at that time area along to the right.
It was the year some maniac ran on the pitch and hit Dwyer and Peg leg complete with stick and the thinnest of blue lines keeping hundreds of them back. They had us pinned at the back of the stand around the door leading to that staircase. When the lines eventually broke we went through the door. I'm sure I only touched one step on the flight down. Up the grass bank, over a wall and into the section that ran down the rear of the main stand down to Cold Blow Lane.
I remember a few going over those blue gates. As they reached the top Millwall appeared on the other side. One ended up impaled by his jeans on top of the gate. The rest of us scappered off down the back of the main stand and spent remainder of the second half holed up in some sort builders compound. Eventually the police regrouped and came to our rescue. At the time I wish I hadn't gone.
I went a few years later, early in the season game and we hammered them. By then it was relatively safe.

I was at the same game, never felt so in danger, swore I would never go back and never did.
My most vivid memory is some really old guy with a walking stick smacking Cardiff fans with it as they ran past him.

When I went a taxi would not stop near the ground. We were put in a small pen . All 50 and 60 year olds millwall fans going crazy !

I was there in 73 and 77 and they were crazy days. No protection of what i remember as Millwall came from all parts of the ground at us. We were pushed around everywhere and a lot of Cardiff were forced out of the ground ! Peggy and a few others stood their ground for a while and saved the day for a while. lol. Went back in the 90's and it was as safe as houses compared to the 70's. lol
