What is it about the Ryder Cup

Mon Oct 04, 2010 7:34 am

Cardiff City Football Club has and always will be my first love in sporting terms, football generally is my second and then probably cricket. The one sport I have never been able to get my head around watching is golf, until that is it becomes a team sport in the format of the Ryder Cup.

Normally there is no way I wouldn't watch a match between Chelsea and Arsenal, but yesterday I found the Ryder Cup Golf absolutely enthralling, golf of the highest quality played with determination, passion (I think Ian Poulter is a Bluebird Fan) and an absolutely never say die attitude by the eurpoean team.

And what an atmosphere created by the watching crowds signing, chanting and some absolutely brilliant sledging of some American players, did anyone hear the fan asking Tiger Woods if he had finished already when watching the match after suffering his heaviest ever Ryder Cup defeat. I have to say the atmosphere put the CCS to shame, having said that how could you not become passionate when you are watching players like Ian Poulter and Rory McIlroy, I mean talk about wearing hearts on your slieve.

The mental strength of these players is just unbelieveable and god how I wish we had more of it amongst the Cardiff City squad, sadly only Craig Bellamy and Chops are on the level these guys are, if we had more we would have brushed Crystal Palace aside last Tuesday.

Whatever the outcome today I think it would be wrong not to recognise what a tremendous job has been done by everyone associated with the Celtic Manor Resort, both teams and of course the fantastic fans.

Once again this fantastic competition has resulted in the game of golf being the real winner but I think our wonderful country has also shown to the world that we can hold World Class events, at World Class sporting venues which are organised to World Class standards.

Not bad for this part of the World. :ayatollah: :ayatollah: :ayatollah: :ayatollah:

Catleblue that is a great post and I feel the same way, I didn't bother watching the football on ESPN or sky I just couldn't take my eyes off it. Golfers usually play for huge sums of money one on one, but you can plainly see they really take pride in playing as a team and don't forget they don't get paid a penny.

Sir Terry Matthews has invested around $33 million of his own money to get this to happen in Wales and all credit to him, it's just a pity that he is not a football man as he is Wales richest man.

I also like the Wales Tourist Board little adverts in the breaks especially the young boy in a Cardiff City T shirt with Ninian Park emblazoned over the front, Roger Pride the WTB marketing director is an avid Cardiff City fan and is there for most home games, well done Roger mate!!!

Good luck to the Europe team and I hope you regain the Cup.
