"In the meeting, we laughed a lot. It was an easy meeting, I’m not a manager to attack my players hard. I tried to explain the situation clearly and I think my players understand it well. I’m clear and honest with them, my players know what I want. We try to find a solution for the team."

I said what I was expecting and we had a talk. He understood me really well and put a good performance in on the field. He was working for the team offensively, creating and keeping the ball. This I’m expecting from him. Ramsey is injured so now it’s his time to show himself. I hope he continues for many games like that.

Encouraging to see response?


It’s great they showed this reaction. This is good. Against Blackburn, we were too far away from the opponent, shadow marking is not enough, you have to be more aggressive. We didn’t create as much as we did before also. We had some injury problems but other players have to step in and take responsibility.

How are you and squad?

I feel well, I think the players too. It was a good result for us. I said before the game, it will be a different team on field, and they showed that, offensively and defensively. It was a quite good performance from the team. I expect this and I think the supporters do too. We worked hard during pre-season for this. The last three games, we didn’t have good results and we didn’t play how we played when we made 12 points in a row. We had some injuries but it was not on the level that we could take three points. The last game was a good reaction from the team and I’m expecting this also this weekend.

Siopis impact?

Siopis is always on 100% I think he was born like this and he will continue like this. The team have fun with him, he’s a funny guy. He’s 100% in training and tries 100% for his teammates on the field. You have to be serious but sometimes you need to have fun and Siopis is exactly that point.

Was he the game-changing signing?

Yeah he is a player that can destroy many things from the opponent. He’s very aggressive in his game, running a lot and making a lot of metres. It’s important to have a player like this. How I know Siopis because when I took him to Alanyaspor, he was technically not what I was expecting but he is now always involved and tried to impact the game from behind.

Bought himself out of contract?

For sure, you saw in the Bristol game yesterday a lot of energy, running, pressing. It will be a tough game on Saturday so we need to go against this and show fighting spirit. Not only from Siopis but all our players. Huddersfield was also not an easy game but everybody was working, running.

Scoring more goals?

I said it at the start of the season, we scored 41 goals last season, so I knew we had to do something on the offensive part. We are doing really well, we are scoring and also creating a lot, maybe not the last two or three games before Huddersfield but against Leeds and Leicester. In all these games we created a lot, but we just couldn’t finish the chances. Every week we train for this and now we get it back.

Yakou Meite v Huddersfield

Yakou is a really good and important player for us. He was a little bit unlucky at the start of the season with small injuries, coming back and getting injured again. He was always putting himself under pressure because he didn’t score, he had a few chances. But I told him continue to work, they will come, you will score and then everything will start. Against Huddersfield he scored and had two or three good actions. It was a good game after his injury, he played 60 minutes so we can only build on it.

Salih Ucan links?

I read a lot of things about. Salih Ucan is also a player that I had Alanyaspor where I also had Siopis. He was a good midfield player, they play really well together but we are not at that level where we can buy him. He will be too expensive for us. I don’t know who put it in the press, maybe his agent to try and get a new contract at Besiktas!

Thoughts on Bristol City?

They have had injuries and rotate also but on Saturday we expect a team with speed, fighting running and doing really good work. It will not be easy but we must be at 100%. I hope that we can do it, we are on that level that we can do it. We want to bring something back to the fans, the 25,000 or maybe more in the stadium. Three points I hope.

I’m not surprised by what he has shown. Maybe the media is a little surprised. I knew what I had got, I know what kind of profile he is, so he is giving exactly what I expected, fighting spirit, win balls and deliver to the offensive part.
