Wales to host opening match of Euro 2028 but all UK nations will have to fight it out to qualify
Wales will reportedly host the opening game of Euro 2028. However, the team aren't guaranteed a qualification spot for the five-host UK bid.
The UK and Ireland bid for the 2028 showpiece was officially confirmed at a UEFA meeting in Nyon later today, after running unopposed following Turkey's withdrawal last week. According to the BBC, Cardiff's Principality Stadium is now set to host the opening game of the tournament, and the FAW hopes to host around five more games in the Welsh capital, including a quarter-final.
