MY VIEW: TONIGHT CITY TOOK ON LOWLY BORO AWAY A

Tue Oct 03, 2023 8:35 pm

MY VIEW / OPINION:

TONIGHT CITY TOOK ON LOWLY BORO AWAY AND CAME AWAY WITH NOTHING AS THE HOME TEAM DESERVEDLY GOT THE 3PTS

Second- half was all Boro.

City brought back down to earth after a brilliant recent run.

Squad will def need strengthening

First-half was quite stale, with Boro just edging it, but over all nothing really to say. City looked solid.

Second-half: GOAL! Middlesbrough 1-0 Cardiff City (Jones 56)
Goal! And it had been coming. Jones taps home.
Goutas clears an initial cross out to Engel, who skips past Siopis and drills a low cross through Adams' legs. Jones slides in at the back post and taps in.

67th min: Callum Robinson on for Wintle.

71st min: Colwill on for Etete, for Cardiff.
Adams off and Romeo also on.

GOAL! Middlesbrough 2-0 Cardiff City (Latte Lath 84)

Goal. That should be that. A full-length breakaway and Latte Lath finishes.

MIDDLESBROUGH 2 CARDIFF CITY 0
H-T 0-0
Crowd 24,276
Away Support 283

Cardiff City : Alnwick; Ng, Goutas, McGuinness, Ralls; Adams, Siopis, Wintle; Tanner, Etete, Grant.

Subs: Runarsson, Panzo, Romeo, Sawyers, Rinomhota, R. Colwill, Evans, Robinson, Ugbo.

Couldn't put any decent play together tonight never really got going. Think Adams at right back wasn't buluts best idea and hope he learns from it.
On to Saturday

Game too far. Running on gas.

The last few weeks have taken it out of us, injuries, long away trips and tough opponents. Need the international break now and hopefully get a few back fully fit.

Think Adams on the bench at best is more suited tbh

We started ok and look decent then when Boro got their act together we went downhill quick.

That second half was as bad as the second half at Blackburn. We will need to bounce back from this against Watford.

Lots of injuries taking their toll.
Onto Watford on Saturday, hopefully can get a good result there and then we have the international break to get everyone back fit and firing.

The first substitues should have been Romeo on for Adams, Robinson on for Grant and Colwill on for Ralls. Pointless putting on Ugbo for Tanner as you take off our most effective forward and replacehim with someone who is badly out of his depth at this level. Bad decisions tonight by the manager.

No surprise with this result. Too many injuries and little recovery time to go up there. Tired performance. Adams as a full back was a dreadful decision though and its exactly where the first goal came from too. Let's hope we have some good news with player fitness before the weekend as I can easily see us having back to back defeats playing the extended squad. They are not good enough. 10 games gone and my glass is very much half full. A comfortable mid table we look at the moment.

Adams was a very strange decision, he could have played in midfield although i don't think he is championship standard and the non-selection of Romonhota is a real surprise when the entire midfield look shagged, every second touch was a tackle. need the break

Don’t understand the thinking behind playing Ng at LB when Panzo is there. Boro’s first goal came from our right and they seemed to exploit that area in the 2nd half. Perry needs to stay on the right.

Our injury list is hurting us on the pitch. Looks like October is going to be a tough month for us

Sorry I have to disagree with a few points on here. Firstly a Neil Warnock side would have come away with three points tonight because of the way he would have set up the team and they would have been set up to attack.

Boro in the first half were easily the worst team we've played this season pondurous, little attacking threat no confidence.
What do we do sit back and play with a lets see what happens type of attitude.

By the time the second half finished they'd created 5 decent chances and made it look like they were 6th in the table not us.
It's been said on here that Grant, Etete and Ugbo are not good enough and I agree the skill levels and decision making aren't good enough. Far more effective would be finding places for players with real attacking intent , eagerness and skill namely Tanner, Colwill and Robinson.

Yet again Tanner who has proved that he can score goals and set up chances out of nothing was substituted. I can only think he been caught sleeping with Bulets Mrs. Attacking wise he is obviously our most dangerous player and should start every game and play for 90 mins. Ask yourself who was most likely to get us a goal in that match Grant, Etete, or Tanner!

As for the everyone's tired excuse that's unacceptable the season's only two months old. York, Wimbledon, Millwall all travelled far tonight and won.

Teams that have a winning mentality don't say oh dear it's Middlesbrough that's a long way we'll probably be knackered and lose! Teams with a winning mindset just get on with it.

Why I'm so annoyed about this is we've won four games on the trot and tonight we should have made it five but it was it we couldn't be bothered and the manager (who I like) needs desperately to address this along with his substitutions which are unexplainable at regular intervals , and the lack of attacking attitude in games such as these relating to tactics and team selection. Middlesbrough should have been approached a lot different than Sunderland!

Didn't work tonight, too many injuries, too many square pegs in round holes. We move on.

Boro were there for the taking tonight but the first goal was always going to be key
Their crowd were starting to get very restless with Carricks approach and who knows if Grants one on one, or Tanners post effort had gone in, it would have been a different result
However they were not the worst team we’ve played this year [Rotherham for one, were very poor) and they have some momentum with a winning run of their own
There was just a lack of creativity there, which a full strength squad could have overcome, but still the football is so much better than last year
Onwards to 3 points Saturday and a safe trip home for all

I did think we where quite happy to not push on and take a point
goutas
mc'guiness
Alnwick seemed to be happy to just knock it about at the back even siopis played the most back passes i have seen from him since he arrived we where not going be charging at boro it seemsed conserve energy was priority.
