Elsewhere, one-time Cardiff target Auston Trusty is leaving Arsenal to seal a £5million move to Sheffield United upon their return to the Premier League, as per YorkshireLive.
Cardiff had held talks to bring the USA international to the club last summer, and it was understood that they were well-placed to land his services on a season-long loan.
However, their pursuits were dealt a decisive blow when a new FIFA ruling, which classifies Cardiff as a “foreign loan”, came into play, prohibiting clubs from loaning out more than eight players to different associations at any one time.
Leading Premier League teams often have a vast amount of players out on loan and will naturally be less keen to sanction such moves to Welsh clubs if there are English options on the table.
This was no different with the Gunners, who decided to send Trusty out on loan to fellow Championship outfit Birmingham City instead.
The defender promptly shone in the West Midlands and won the Supporters' Player of the Year award, while he also featured for Arsenal during their pre-season tour.
