Erol Bulut responds to Kieffer Moore transfer links and expects Cardiff City signings before Leeds United clash

The Bluebirds manager spoke after City's 0-0 draw with Wycombe

By Glen Williams

Cardiff City manager Erol Bulut is confident of making signings before the Bluebirds' Championship opener against Leeds United next Sunday.

Cardiff played out a goalless draw against Wycombe Wanderers in their final pre-season game on Saturday. Despite playing some nice stuff at times they lacked that real goal threat when it mattered.

It's not a secret that Cardiff are looking to add an out-and-out striker this summer, however Bulut wants more than just a striker in through the door.

"Not only a striker, we will try and make a few more transfers. But we have to see in the coming week," he said. When asked if the club were close to any more new additions, he added: "Possibly. Do you want names? You'll have to wait!"

Bournemouth striker Kieffer Moore, who played 13 minutes for the Cherries in their own pre-season clash against Atalanta on Saturday, is a player Cardiff are understood to be interested in signing, however there appears to be a few hurdles to leap before that becomes a reality.

Asked directly about Moore, Bulut said: "The name was in the news and social media, but until now it's nothing serious. Social media and newspapers write every day - not everything is correct."

Mark McGuinness was absent through injury against Wycombe, meaning Dimitrios Goutas and Jack Simpson started together. But that position does look light when one of the senior players is unavailable.

Asked if City were in for a centre-back, Bulut reiterated: "We are looking for that position, too, but not only for that position, for some other positions also."

More pertinently, with just one week to go until that Elland Road opener against Leeds United, when WalesOnline asked if he was confident Cardiff would be able to make signings before next Sunday, Bulut replied: "Yes."

But it's at the top end of the pitch which Cardiff will perhaps be a little frustrated by. City have scored eight goals in eight games in pre-season, five of which have come against Cymru Premier sides.

Asked if that was a concern, Bulut said: "We are training on it. We signed five new players and they are trying to adapt to the team.

"Some movements on the field we have to be better on. Like today, we saw it but for the coming weeks we have to manage it much, much better."

Bulut on injuries: ‘Yakou Méïté had a small injury, Joe Ralls will be back in a few days, Mark McGuinness had a small kick on his knee in the last game and Rubin Colwill felt some stiffness. Romaine Sawyers had a small knee injury with the national team but will train next week.’

Good News - But we should have added to our 5 this or last week...To give players time to gel .

It’s worrying that even if we did get a top striker in, we won’t be able to rely on him alone.
Goals should come from all over the team, not just one player. I’m usually the eternal optimist, but the fact that we have 5 new players in and there is absolutely no change in our attempts at putting the ball in the back of the net is pessimistic to say the least.

Don’t worry, we won’t be getting a “top striker” in. How could we when we can’t spend any money? The gypos spent £2.5m for a striker who has scored most of his goals in L1, but is still a lot better than anything we have or will get.

Surely KM is worth around £2.5m and had played two leagues higher than Yates.

KM is better. That is if there is anything in his potential signing.

But we won’t be getting KM, so it’s irrelevant. Equally as worrying we don’t create anything either.

We created a few chances yesterday. Barring a few blocks by defenders we could have scored

I disagree. Think that Robinson, Grant, Meite etc all have goals in them. Goutas and McGuinness will be dangerous from set pieces too.

Certainly not going to read too much into the pre-season friendlies which, let's be honest, are glorified training sessions.

WORCESTER CCFC

While i agree with your statement that friendlies are glorified trainning sessions
Buluts thinking that this game would be his starting 11 and we could not manage a goal against a lower league team the week before we play leeds is a tad concerning.

But that’s what defenders are there to do, and will do in every game. It’s like saying we would have scored if the GK hadn’t saved it. Good attacking play gets it past these obstacles, and we can’t do it.

Without sounding greedy, I think ideally we need 5 players if we want to have any hope of getting into the top 10.

GK - The two we have at the moment are in my opinion not good enough
ST - We all know we cant put the ball in the net recently. Kieffer Moore would be perfect
CB - An injury to Goutas will put us in trouble so need back up
CM - I dont rate Rino or Sawyers so need to upgrade imo
FullBack - Again, we need someone to cover either side if there are injuries or suspension. Ideally O'Dowda would also then be played further forward

I think we've had a decent window so far. I cant see 5 more coming in but like I said if we want to challenge that's what we need
