MY VIEW / OPINION: THIS WAS A BIGGER GAME THAN MANY REALISED

Sat Jul 29, 2023 3:54 pm

MY VIEW / OPINION:

THIS WAS A BIGGER GAME THAN MANY REALISED WITH EROL BULUT DECIDING HIS FINAL FIRST TEAM V LEEDS FROM HOW THE PLAYERS PLAYED TODAY.

SAME OLD STORY CARDIFF FAIL IN FRONT OF GOAL & EVENTUALLY COULD OF LOST.

THE FACTS ARE CITY NEED A QUALITY STRIKER END OFF.

EROL BULUT:

"The last game when we play against Wycombe, I will know my team for the opening game at Leeds.”

"I will be more clear who will start the first XI against Leeds away. We have enough time until then to think about it."

FIRST-HALF: End to end, but some good football from Ramsey & Ojo :bluebird: :bluebird:
City though still struggling upfront
Not the best game to watch

SECOND-HALF: Ramsey was running the show.
64th min: Ramsey and Adams off.
Rinomhota and Robinson on.

86th min: Cardiff clear off the line.

Rinomhota with a poor mistake as he gifts the ball to a Wycombe striker, who only has Alnwick to beat. Alnwick gets a leg on it but Goutas makes an acrobatic clearance to get it off the line!

WYCOMBE 0 CARDIFF CITY 0
H-T 0-0

Cardiff City: Allsop; Ng, Goutas, Simpson, O'Dowda; Wintle, Adams, Ramsey; Ojo, Grant, Ugbo.

Subs: Alnwick, Romeo, Benjamin, Collins, Rinomhota, Evans, Tanner, Robinson, Etete #CCFC #Bluebirds

City played ok, but Wycombe also matched them at times.

Ojo had an excellent first-half.

30th min: Close! Grant with the cross and Ramsey tries an audacious chip over Stryjek - but it wascleared off the line!

Wycombe also had their chances.

City still struggling upfront

Not the best game to watch

H-T 0-0

No changes.

54th min: Allsop off, Alnwick on.

64th min: Ramsey and Adams off.
Rinomhota and Robinson on.

67th min: Stunning ball down the line from Robinson and Grant has the freedom to drive towards the box. He unleashes a vicious shot and forces Stryjek into a very good save.
First proper shot of the game.

69th min: Fantastic effort from Jack Grimmer, who smacked a left-footed half volley on target, forcing Alnwick to dive and tip over!

MASSIVE CHANGES:
71st min:

Cardiff subs...

ON

Etete
Collins
Tanner
Romeo
Evans

OFF

Ugbo
O'Dowda
Ng
Ojo
Grant

82nd min: Benjamin on for Simpson.

86th min: Cardiff clear off the line.

Rinomhota with a poor mistake as he gifts the ball to a Wycombe striker, who only has Alnwick to beat. Alnwick gets a leg on it but Goutas makes an acrobatic clearance to get it off the line!

Well from that the passing play is great the fitness is great but the final third is horrific we need a striker or two asap

8 goals in 8 games and 5 of them come vs Welsh league normal job players.

We shouldn't judge on pre season some say but I do and see nothing different from last season so far. Like I said before anything better than last season will do me with this current squad who can't seem to beat div 1 teams.

Based on that performance i can't see what has changed much since the end of last season?

We played some pretty stuff at times but are completely toothless and accident prone at the back. I really hope there is some more business done this week as a striker is absolutely obvious. We stayed up because of Kaba last year but we have yet to replace him. Not sure what Ugbo is but he is not an a number 9. Frankly we are still being held back by all the useless signings from the Morison era. Adams is the latest to confirm he's not really Championship quality. Poor distribution today and for me the love in for Wintle has to stop too. Over rated.

We need a quality defensive midfielder, another centre half and above all a striker or else the bookies are bang on, we are relegation candidates again.

We never addressed the one major problem , we need a goal scorer and it’s not rocket science , I personally think we are not a lot stronger than last season if at all , could be very worrying

Can never judge pre-season too closely. We'll have a real idea where we are once the season gets up and running next week.

But there were positives and negatives from that. We still have an issue scoring goals but I think that will come with the wingers we have now. Said it before the game and still think now that we need a CB, CM and striker.

We are playing good football. Grant, O'Dowda and Ramsey seem to have a great understanding. Goutas looks to be a rock at the back.

Some people had unrealistic expectations for this season. I always said if we could finish mid table then we would have done well after last season. With those few additions I mentioned, we'd be in a good place to achieve that.

All in all a decent pre-season and roll on Leeds next week :bluebird:

Our best goal scorer we lef ton the bench. Then when he did come on played in midfield.

Surely Robinson is a better option up front than Ugbo?!

Must get a natural goal scorer before Leeds.

Once Ramsey is injured, we are back to the same old. Striker that can score goals is required. Why is Simpson still in the team? Same mistakes will be made in defence. Hopefully we can be mid table by the time the transfer window opens in January 24.

Not sure it matters who we have up front as we're not really getting the ball anywhere near the forwards we do have playing. It's not like the front players missed a load of chances as none were created.

You need to create chances for any striker to score tbh so makes no diff :bluescarf:

When Keifer was with us last time he struggled too in a poor side. This afternoon was just a stroll for us anyone could see.If I was Bulut and someone got injured going for a 50/50 or doing anything thing else that got them injured I would rip them a new one.Fifty years of watching friendlies have taught me one thing, it doesn't mean squat in the big picture.

It does help not to form an opinion based on friendlies, the concern is the players who got game time who cannot play against Leeds bt Bulut has to show his starting 11 now.

They've played teams who mainly sit back and defend.
It'll be totally different in the league.
We will create much more chances. Ramsey, grant, robbo all in attacking positions.
