Philogene could be signing, But not:

Mon Jun 19, 2023 9:17 am

For Cardiff City:

Stoke are keen on signing Aston Villa winger Jaden Philogene but face rival interest from two Bundesliga clubs in Germany. Villa prepared to sell Philogene, who spent last season on loan at Cardiff following a previous stint at Stoke, Cardiff are unable to sign Philogene due to a transfer embargo on the club.
Stoke are willing to pay the asking fee of £500,000.

I thought so, Sadly it’s our own fault.

500k  absolute steal. Definitely a investment for the lucky buyer. Shame it's not us.

Loan with a must buy next season for 1m. Easy to sort.

If Philogene is available for £500k, why can't we borrow him from Villa and agree a £500k-plus commitment to buy fee in July 2024 ?

At the moment we have Erol Bulut as manager , who is probably searching( I hope) Europe for players he knows and trusts .

I agree though that Philogene is a steal at that price !
I'm sure if we want him , something can be worked out , a post dated cheque for £1m dated July 1st 2024 ;)

The poor planning and management by our BOD is now coming home yet again. Kipre might be in the same situation. Why would Villa be interested in post dated cheques when "normal" clubs can pay this upfront.
Another proven, decent player lost for no reason. To be replaced by yet another freebie.

I prefer to wait and see who the manager brings in before getting het up on players who we've missed out on. For all we know the quality of players he is hoping to get may be much better than those we've 'lost'. I very much doubt the new manager will be trawling through Leagues 1 and 2 to pad out the squad numbers, so for the time being I'm staying positive.

I would assume that a loan plus a commitment to buy next season would be seen as a flagrant bending of the rule in place.

How can we sign a document committing to spend money when the document is dated within the period of our ban?

Fulham weren’t outright banned from spending money though, they did it to balance FFP. Italian clubs in particular do it all the time.

Its quite possible that Philogene doesn't want to come back here. I'm pretty sure it was only Kipre and Kaba of the three loanees that had shown any interest in coming back.

I get what you're saying about Italian clubs doing it regularly but they're not dealing with the EFL & in particular someone leading the organisation who has an axe to grind & should not be in charge of a book of matches never mind the EFL.

Personally he frustrated the shit out of me.
He kept the ball to long especially out wide .i always thought he had way more gears to use .
A good player in the making but will he make it .
I can see why villa dont want him .
He may have pushed on here another season but he aint .
I won't lose sleep over him not being with us

I have a feeling Erol will not want players that occasionally turn up.

I think a season of draws and one nils awaits us!

Not enough end results, his stats were poor. Wasnt it something like 22% target hit from shots?
