Sabri got it wrong

Mon Apr 10, 2023 6:11 pm

Yep he got it wrong today.

Playing wingbacks when we don't have any of quality, playing players out of position...

We were overrun in midfield, everything came down the right but it took until the 60th minute to resolve that.

Ojo is awful most of the time, he does the odd good thing. For example Leeds goal.

Billygene is our only real threat and he took him off... Would've been better hooking Wickham.

Kaba... Too slow.

Sawyers too relaxed, no drive.

No captain on the field.

I fear for Saturday, could be embarrassing and a heavy defeat this point in the season would not be good.

Strange thing though, I'd like to see Sabri and Sol given another chance next year with a little bit of cash... Not going to happen, if we go down we will be looking for yet another manager!

I think there's a player in Etete, given another preseason.

Hugely wrong and he knew that with the 30 min subs. No idea how Wickham stayed on at that point either as it plainly wasn't happening for him. Simpson as wing back was as insane as Mad Mick, really starting to doubt him now

If you look at his record so far in 12 games he can’t beat one good side

We are No better of under him so far.

We are still 21st

Played 12. Won 4 Drawn 1 Lost 7

And only because Reading lost 6pts

I tend to agree but he lessens the chance of any sympathy being shown when he says that the squad IS good enough.

End of the day he chooses the squad and the tactics, he got it wrong, players don’t seem to care enough to help

He is hardly going to say to the press "Jesus, it's a shit squad with only about 6 championship players, with 2 massively on the downgrade", but we know that is the truth

Hopefully the player in Etete is a lot better than the one on the outside! Not strong or quick enough, and his shot at the end...well the less said the better :(

I think the wingbacks comment is a bit unfair on Romeo. Sunderland actively avoided the right side today when he was moved back there. Everything of note from them came from attacking Ojo and then Simpson

Don't see the lovin with Romeo, excuse the pun :-). He hasn't been the same since coming back from injury. Lacks pace to go past anyone and his final ball is awful, like Ralls, O'Dowda, Ojo etc. How many times do we hit the first man with a cross, would love to see that stat.

Sabri has inherited a squad with little chance to change it, he has to remain positive and say good things about the squad. Can't really come out every week and say they're effing useless. To judge a manager you have to give him his own squad and time.

As my avatar would say about our squad "the definition of insanity is doing the same thing over and over again and expecting a different result" or in our case changing the manager with the same squad and expecting a different result.

The only person who could've change this would've been Warnock and we wouldn't have liked the "style", but we like the "style" of going down to league one.

What team would you play on Saturday if you were the manager, you can only pick from this bunch. I would be tempted to pack the midfield and defense, even play no striker... Or play the kids. That's how bad it is.

I really thought after Wickham played well on Friday that we would go direct but we seemed unsure what we are doing, Wickham was appalling so we carried him for 45 mins.

As you say the problem is the wingbacks but not the players the belief in the wingback system during recruitment means we have no wide forwards to worry the opposing fullbacks if we decide to go back to a 442 or 433.

After nearly 2 seasons i still have no idea what Ojo's position is, I guess (politely) its a 10, but he can't press, assist or score !!

Still no idea what Sawyers best position is either, better clubs than us have tried him as CM,DCM or AMC but unless you are on the front foot and winning the possession battle he is a passenger, and for us to win the possession battle we have to drop another midfielder in at the expense of a forward

To say Etete is a work in progress is an understatement, if he was on loan from Spurs I'd say he needed to drop down to L2 because the defenders are too cute for him at this stage in his career at championship level, Kaba knows where the goal is but is not a target man so we needed pace to live off scraps and I still can't see the calls for Issak Davies as he is never where he should be, again what's his position?

The squad is a mess and with our only real championship forward out, we are in trouble. If i was Sabri I would scrub Wickhams, Sawyers and Ojo off every potential starting list as they are not up to it.

You're right we have too many players with no definitive position... Harris, Davies, O'Dowda, NG, Ojo, Robinson, Sang, Colwill, Etete, even Ralls and BillyGene now.

For me the process is simple, decide on the formations and style you want to play, recruit the best players you can afford in those positions. Also make sure you recruit leaders in that mix. Warnock had captain's everywhere... Peltier, Morrison, Bamba etc. We have no voice on the field, Wintle and Ralls are not captains, I would appoint McGuiness.

Out of this squad I would keep:

Wintle
McGuiness
NG
Philogene
Maybe the two injured lads, we haven't seen one of them.
I'm struggling now...
