Jenkins rues lack of quality as youngsters go down to defeat
Cardiff City U18’s 1 Crewe U18’s 2
Cardiff City under-18s boss Steve Jenkins admits his side were punished for a lack of quality in the 2-1 home defeat to league 2 Crewe Alexandra at the weekend.
The young Bluebirds saw their four-match unbeaten run come to an end at the hands of the visitors at Leckwith, and Jenkins admits his team were too slow to come out the blocks on a disappointing afternoon.
“I was disappointed with the first half," he said. "Thought we looked a little passive and lacked a real energy and quality and that’s what we’re about as a team. We’re aggressive, we have energy, but we just lacked it today. Let’s be fair, I thought Crewe were really good, they played well and deserved to win.
“We came out in the second half and had a go, created some good chances. Trey hit the post on a couple of occasions, their keeper made a couple of good saves at some vital moments. We huffed and puffed but probably didn’t have enough quality on the day to go and get an equaliser or a winner
