CHAMPIONSHIP WIGAN POINTS DEDUCTION

Points confirmed deducted

“Wigan Athletic has, with immediate effect, been deducted three points from the 2022/23 Championship table after the Club failed to pay player salaries again in March 2023.” - @EFL_Comms

I know something needed to be done regarding this matter but I’m not sure if it was this.

The players have firstly been hit hard by not being paid. In a weird way it feels like the EFL are defending the players by hitting back at the club/owners for not paying them. But all this is doing is punishing the players again as it’s basically all but confirmed that they’ll be relegated meaning they’ll probably be on a lower wage again next season.

Let’s not forget it’s the same EFL that allowed Wigan’s owners to pass the fit and proper test. Maybe it’s them that needs punishing as well.

That might just about see them down. Hudds is the big one, a 15 pt deduction was talked about. If thats the case it might mean there is just one place to fight against, and that will be between Blackpool, Us, Rotherham, QPR and maybe the Jacks and Reading if the latter also get a pts deduction as suggested by some.

Re: Reading, Ince says he's expecting a deduction as that's how the EFL are behaving as seen by today with Wigan. 6pts would put them below us on GD so I hope it's that, decision expected by Thursday.

Such a shame that the debacle happened to us on Saturday as we would have had a 2 win cushion. Be good if Huddersfield got docked as I am a tad concerned about Warnock and also McCarthy breathing down our necks.

TAKE 3PTS IF WIGAN & THEY WILL LOOK FINISHED WITH ONLY 31 PTS

One less club to worry about for Cardiff:

I am hoping that Reading lose 6 and Huddersfield 12 on Thursday.

I think Reading will get any point deduction held over until next year.

Will throw enough legal doubt at it to make it impossible to deal with this season.

The 6 points are already suspended from last year.

You seem to 'know' a lot about a few things these last few days without really qualifying anything...

Or am I just mistaking your fact-sounding words for mere opinion rather than statement?

I've helped you out by highlighting the pertinent words in my post and they are definitely NOT "fact sounding" words.

Sorry Sven, that last post sounds a tad sarcastic.

Didn't mean it like that, just trying to point out I know absolutely nothing and it's just a guess on my part.

It's okay, fella. I don't take it personally and see your point; but I noted comments after the actual game that suggested you knew what was going to happen... :ayatollah:

It's a frustrating situation 5 years to the weekend on from Derbygate, I now believe (not understand) that the game will be replayed and Rotherham will at worst get a reprimand and/or maybe small fine. When supposedly 'one of our own', Nathan Blake, comes out more on the side of Rotherham...

Pundit's view - Nathan Blake

"There wasn't much that could've been done in fairness, but the sprinklers came on, There's no way they knew the rain was going to come down like it did.

"Obviously it looks bad during the rain with the sprinklers on and one of the ground staff - pushing water off and pulling it back on with his "

"But it was a real deluge - the rest of the pitch was under water so it would've been difficult to play the game, the ball wasn't going to roll or anything like that.

"I think the frustration for the Cardiff fans was probably the fact that for 15 to 20 minutes no one came out and tried to do anything at all about the pitch and then when they did one guy came out and then the second then the third.

"Then one guy with a fork trying to relieve some of the flooding but it was never going to happen, it was just one of those things - mother nature. It couldn't be helped.

"Rotherham were far happier to have the game abandoned than Cardiff - Cardiff were trying to get it on and Rotherham were happy for it to be abandoned.

"Rotherham were happy because they had three or four of their main players out also, so everything was good for them to have the game abandoned but not so good for Cardiff in fairness.

"I would've thought that there would definitely be a replay for sure and Cardiff will be disappointed but they can still go there and win.

"But like I said, it was one of those situations where there was a long way to go for an abandoned game and things happen from time to time."

I think it is a 5pm cut off today.

Also the Reading point deduction is a pre existing suspended points deduction so there is no time limit on that one to be added this season

Looks like Huddersfield Town may have staved off Administration.

An odd deal where the part owner has bought out the other owners and immediately sold it to an American consortium.
