" EFL to review abandonment / Cardiff City not happy "

Sat Mar 18, 2023 5:54 pm

"Following the abandonment of this afternoon's Championship fixture between Rotherham United and Cardiff City, the circumstances surrounding this will now be considered in-line with EFL regulations," the EFL have said.

It is understood Cardiff were unhappy with the decision to abandon the match.

A statement on Cardiff's website confirmed the postponement and said: "Further details will follow in due course."

Neither Cardiff boss Sabri Lamouchi or Rotherham manager Matt Taylor spoke with the media after the match, on the advice of the EFL.

So what will the EFL look at?

Was the pitch playable when the ref went to do an inspection? I say no.

Could have it been made playable? I would say yes if there was enough groundmen. 3 is just taking the Michael.

Should they have waited that extra 90 minutes before making the decision? They could have done but you have to consider the fans and their safety.

Well if a game can continued 90 mins after a player has had a heart attack they could have waited a lot longer is my thoughts

I would understand if the pitch was completely flooded but it wasn't. All that was needed is up to 10+ groundmen to sweep the access water off the pitch and unfortunately they dont have the funds for it. I think that due to safety concerns they had to postpone the game, and you could clearly see they never had a proper draining system put in place. And if a tackle happened on a part of the pitch where it was at its worse then you would have more problems. Other issues are probably the white lines in which would probably have to be redone in order for referees to know when a ball is out or not.

But all these issues should not happen for a club in this league but rotherham have been working like a league 1 club.

Youth players, ball boys/girls, any staff could have helped Sam even fans have done clearing jobs before now.
They even had sprinklers on in the rain !!! No excuses here.

Any truth in the sprinklers being on at half time?

As this is quite a new stadium with a new pitch, I expected it to drain better than that. However, my som pointed out to me before the game started how muddy and bare it was in the corner nearest where we were sat ( left hand side of the Cardiff fans). This suggests that there has been a drainage problem at that end for a while.

However, only having 3 groundskeepers available was a joke.
