Under-21s hammered by Ipswich

By Glen Williams

Darren Purse's under-21s endured a heavy defeat in Ipswich as the hosts ran out 4-1 winners in East Anglia.

Cardiff handed Lennon Peake his first start for the under-21s in a forward line with Chanka Zimba and Cian Ashford. However, it was Ipswich who seized the initiative.

They burst into a 3-0 lead at half-time thanks to a brace from Harley Curtis and one from Leon Ayinde. Another goal from the hosts after the break was cancelled out by a late Cameron Antwi strike, but it was a comfortable victory for the English side.

team plus a few were 16s
4 1 is.not exactly a hammering
its all about getting.game time and

Terrible result.

The U21 squad are on a terrible run of form. Good news is the U18s have been doing well lately and the U16s are in a semi final tonight.

I gather that Peake didn't have a great game today. But he's only been with the squad a short amount of time, hasn't been training or playing anywhere for a while. So it will take him a bit of time to get up to speed. Too early to judge him on this performance for those reasons.

Ned,

So did you see the game as it was not live?

Actually Lennon was only suppose to play 45 mins but Purse was so impressed he started him 2nd -half as well.

One clown on here said he was bad, yet he never watched the match?

Lennon is not fit and should of been playing since January 1st, but Cardiff were not able to sign him due to Embargo, which they new about in December.

Lennon is not match fit.

But let’s be honest the U21’s are awful abd unless 6/7/8 first team squad players play they nearly always lose .

Once Lennons had a run and is match fit I actually will state now he will be class.

West Gam don’t keep you for nearly 15 yrs if your not good.

Just spoke to a coach , all I will say is Lennon had a lot more quality about him than the rest of our team, just needs more matches.

No, I didn't get chance to watch it.

But I have seen a few comments that he didn't have a great game.

I don't think I was harsh at all in my comments about him?

As I said.. he hadn't had much time with the squad, hasn't played games for a while, hadn't had much time training so his fitness levels won't be high.

I said it's too early to judge him one way or the other based on today for those reasons.

I'd give the example of Connor Wickham. First couple of substitute appearances he looked off the pace but has impressed since. It takes time for players to get up to speed.

So I actually think I was putting that across in my post?

But I do agree with you about the quality of the rest of the U21s. There's very little if any players there who will make it above League Two level at best.

Ned,

Sorry it’s not you I am having ago at, I sounded harsh as a proper clown did a headline saying Lennon could not make a pub team.
Yet the match was not live and No one saw the match.

Lennon had 15 yrs with a Premier League Club, but sadly 2 years of awful injuries.
If he can get fully fit we will see a quality player.

I have watched him through the years and Lennon was class.

The clown started a topic and was being a pure prick.

Let’s judge Lennon once fully fit . :thumbright: :thumbright:

Totally understand that and agree, early days for him and I'm sure he'll do well when fully fit :thumbright:

Like you said, don't spend 15 years at a club like West Ham for no reason.

Annis/Ned, the 'clown' concerned stated he was watching the game 'live', yet it wasn't televised...!

You couldn't make it up! Well, actually that particular balloon did...!

Reports since tge game suggest Darren Purse kept him on longer than planned and he was our 'star' player in that time. I take that as a positive and can only imagine where he would be in his progress, if he had signed when originally planned...

And as you say, he wasn't at Premier League West Ham United for 15 years by being a 'poor' player... :ayatollah: :bluescarf:
