Huddersfield Town administration and takeover rumours explained and what may come next

Reports have claimed that Huddersfield Town are weighing up the possibility of going into administration amid takeover interest from two rival Dutch and American groups.

Rumours have swirled about a potential administration over the past few weeks and The Sun’s claims come with Town sitting inside the Championship bottom three and six points adrift of safety with just ten games to play following their 1-0 defeat away to West Brom.

Here’s what you need to know about what administration might mean for the club and how things might proceed.

Are Huddersfield Town going into administration, and why?
As it stands, that is unconfirmed. The club have routinely offered no comment to questions about the status of their takeovers – either from Phil Hodgkinson to Dean Hoyle, or to completely new ownership – and this matter is no different. Last month they cancelled a scheduled meeting with supporters’ groups, saying that process and talks over the future of the John Smith’s Stadium were at a ‘very sensitive stage’.

WIGAN ATHLETIC CONFIRM DELAY IN MEETING WAGE OBLIGATIONS

Wigan Athletic confirm delay in wage payments after liquidity issues

EFL aware of current situation and the Club has taken steps to rectify situation moving forward
Club emphasises financial strength of ownership group who are committed to the Club.

Wigan Athletic can confirm that there has been a delay in meeting wage obligations.

Whilst responding to media speculation is not typical of the Club's standard approach, we would like to assure stakeholders that this is a temporary matter which is promptly being resolved.

The Club has been disrupted by recent liquidity issues and this continues to be the case, hence the current situation. The Club wants to emphasise that the financial strength of our ownership group remains robust and they are committed to supporting the Club.

The EFL is aware of the current situation and the Club will continue to work closely with them to ensure that all outstanding wage amounts are paid. The Club has already taken steps to rectify the situation and will ensure that wage payments are made promptly going forward.

It is hoped that this statement does, at the very least, clarify the current funding situation, rather than question the financial strength of the Club.

Wigan Athletic understands the sensitivity of this matter and would like to thank staff, players and fans for their patience. The focus is now firmly on Saturday's Championship fixture with Burnley and the remainder of the Championship season.

The Club will make no further comment until it feels necessary.

VT isn't doing that bad after all despite his stubbornness, thankfully it is not us :bluebird:

It does show though that the money towards the top of the Premier League is outrageous and the smaller clubs and that includes us will never ever compete up the top end and teams like Brentford, Wolves, Fulham should be congratulated on how well they are currently doing.

Is this a case of them conceding they are going down anyway and want to take the points hit this season and start afresh next season?

I think that woikd be a wise move for any club in tbr mire. I see some clubs have the points deferred for a season but for me I think it’s better (if already bottom 3) to take it on the chin and have a fresh start the following season. Otherwise the deferred deduction could just create a higher risk of another relegation

I seem to remember a club doing this on the last day of the season when it was clear they were about to be relegated into the National League.

The potential Reading points deduction or actions was due to be announced last week, not sure if anyone has heard anything about it yet?

Interestingly the bookies wont give odds on Reading to be relegated which suggests there is still a lot of uncertainty.

Just had a look, Skybet aren't but others are, interesting that Sky are not quoting at all so it must be up in the air.
