SABRI LAMOUCHI:

"To win the derby was a lovely weekend. But we started the week thinking about Preston because, as you know, every week is a different story."

Sabri Lamouchi thinks the construction of a new training ground would be a 'good investment' for a club the size of Cardiff City. He's glad the club are looking to the future.

“Preston are bigger and stronger than us and if we don’t play like we did in the last few games then it will be tough for us.”

SABRI LAMOUCHI:

When asked whether he thought Philogene could be a Premier League player next term, the Frenchman added: "It depends where, but he can. In the future, soon, he can, absolutely, but it depends where."

Lamouchi's favourites have certainly emerged, especially during the run of three wins in the last four games, and Philogene certainly falls into that category.

He has shown trickery with his feet, an eye for a shot, but also, pleasingly, an astuteness in regard to the defensive side of his game.

It's probably fair to say that Philogene endured in inconsistent and frustrating start to the campaign, with fleeting moments of brilliance and other, frequent moments of indecision or naivety.

But he does appear to have grown in confidence and shown a greater level of consistency across the campaign. For Lamouchi, at least, his talent was abundantly clear as soon as the manager walked through the door in January.

"I don't know about him at the start of the season, but I saw immediately the quality of Jaden," Lamouchi said. "I like his personality, but I like that he can help the team to play well and make the difference.

"He is young, but when they are young you need to be close to them, to talk with them and trust them."

Lamouchi has certainly placed his faith in Philogene and the youngster has rewarded his manager with some stellar performances. If Cardiff are to continue their climb out of relegation trouble, the Villa youngster will likely have a big part to play.

SABRI LAMOUCHI:

"It's always positive when you try to build the infrastructure of the club," Lamouch said of the potential plans to start building a new training site.

"So, my question is just, why now and not before? Because a club like Cardiff needs, absolutely, a decent infrastructure.

"We are working in a good infrastructure, but we are not at home.

"We are in the best place, with good people, we are sharing some pitches — we are today in the stadium because we cannot train in our training ground, because of the snow — but it is always positive when you invest in an academy, in the youngsters, in the infrastructure, in the training camp.

"It's not a bad a bad investment, it's the opposite. It's looking to the future."

Cardiff captain Joe Ralls shared his manager's views, with the two projects helping both the current crop of players and the next generation coming through.

"It's great to see that we are looking towards the future, to try to improve things here," Ralls added.

"The facilities, we have been happy with academy players coming through over the last few years, it's been great to see. A lot of local lads coming through the system here.

"Hopefully that can continue, because providing the best facilities for our young players is always going to be a positive.

"It's obviously great news and, if we get a training ground, we'd be more than happy as well! It's great to see the club are looking to the future."

Cardiff City: Championship club report losses of £29m

BBC

Thursday 9th March 2023

Cardiff City made an operating loss of £29m over the 2021-22 season.

The loss, detailed in the club's accounts for the year up to 31 May 2022, is an increase of £17m from the previous 12 months.

Total revenue dropped by £35.2m to £19.9m, with the end of parachute payments from the Bluebirds' Premier League stint cited as a key factor.

The accounts show owner Vincent Tan has provided further loans to the Championship club and borrowed of unknown lenders at 9% interest to the club.

In his statement accompanying the results, non-executive Chairman Mehmet Dalman:

"As a board and a club we are extremely grateful for the continued support of our owner and without this the future of the club would look much more precarious."

During the period, Tan loaned £19.8m to the club, with £1.1m of the debt to him and his family repaid and £6.6m converted into equity.

At the time of the accounts, Tan and his family's loans to the club stood at £73m - up from £60m.

However, the accounts state that, following the end of the financial year covered, Tan has since converted a further £19m of that debt into shares.

Loans from other directors and connected parties to the club increased £5m to £25.8m. A further £24.4m was borrowed from an unnamed source after the accounting period.

The club did see turnover from the return of crowds increase following the previous pandemic-affected season, with gate receipts totalling £4.7m compared to £1.1m in 2021.

The wage bill was also lowered from £25.9m to £22.2m.

The accounts also revealed preliminary discussions have begun over a new first team training base that the club hope to be ready in two years. Work has already begun on a new training complex for the club's academy.

As in previous recent accounts, there has again been a contingency provision made for the cost of the Emiliano Sala transfer.

Notes in the accounts say the club are waiting on a ruling from the Swiss Federal Court as they appeal against the decision made by the Court of Arbitration for Sport that required Cardiff to pay Nantes the first instalment of the transfer, believed to be worth around £7m.

Chairman Mehmet Dalman:

"The outcome of this ruling will determine the next steps we as a board will take over the matter of the remaining transfer fee and action(s) against Nantes and their agents and our insurers at that time.

"As a board we are determined to do what is in the best and long-term interest of the club to protect our position, especially in a situation where we as a club were the innocent party in the handling of the actual flight arrangements involving Emiliano."

Sabri Lamouchi says Cardiff City's new training ground can't come soon enough as plans revealed

The club mentioned in their annual accounts that plans were under way to have a new training ground operational by the 2025/26 season

Thursday 9th March 2023

Sabri Lamouchi has said Cardiff City's plans to plough ahead with the construction of a new training ground for their first team is welcome and positive news.

The club reported an operating loss of £29million in their annual accounts for the 2021/22 season, noting once again a heavy reliance on the principal, owner Vincent Tan.

While the accounts, overall, painted a pretty bleak financial picture, with losses and debts both growing, it was heartening for supporters to see strides being taken to futureproofing the club.

Non-executive chairman Mehmet Dalman outlined the club's two big infrastructure projects which are both due for completion in the coming years.

As well as the new academy site, which is flying up in Llanrumney, Dalman also detailed plans for a new first-team training base to be constructed near the club's current base at the Vale Resort in the Vale of Glamorgan.

"We are continuing to build the infrastructure of the club to ensure that we achieve our aim of promotion back to the Premier League and then we must ensure that we retain our status for the foreseeable future and break away from the vicious cycle of promotion and relegation," Dalman said.

"To that end, two projects are currently under way in building that infrastructure.

"Firstly, the development of a new academy training complex in the east of Cardiff, which is expected to come in stream for the start of the 2023/24 season. This will build on the success of the last couple of years of players graduating from the academy to become integral members of the first team.

"Secondly, the construction of a new first-team training base a short distance from our current base, but one that will be wholly and exclusively for the use of the club. While this is in the preliminary stages and negotiation for a 150-year lease over the proposed new training base (have begun), current forecasts are that this will become operational in time for the 2025/26 season."

The idea of Cardiff owning their own training ground has been mooted for a decade or perhaps more. At present, Cardiff pay a big rent fee to use the facilities, alongside other sporting bodies such as the Welsh Rugby Union and the Football Association of Wales.

And Bluebirds manager Lamouchi believes that a club the size of Cardiff should indeed have their own training facilities. Despite the club facing a harsh financial reality, the Frenchman believes that Tan and the board investing and planning for the future is a good sign.

"Hopefully that can continue, because providing the best facilities for our young players is always going to be a positive.

Lamouchi: Alnwick a 'very good professional'

Sabri Lamouchi has heaped praise on the patience Jak Alnwick has shown in waiting for his opportunity to make his Bluebirds league debut, which will come against Preston this Saturday.

Goalkeeper Ryan Allsop is suspended for the trip to Deepdale thanks to a late red card in the win over Bristol City last weekend, a moment which prompted Perry Ng to take the gloves for the final minutes of the match.

And now Alnwick, who has a League Cup and two FA Cup appearances to his name in a Cardiff shirt, will assume the role from the off against Preston on Saturday.

Asked about City's No.2 goalkeeper, Lamouchi said: "I was talking with him last week about his mentality, I said to him, 'Look, I've just come in a month ago, you've never played, but I just want to say thank you to you. Because you have never played, you're always positive, you push Ryan to play better and train good. You're very professional. I just want to say thank you for that.'

"But Ryan is No.1 and Jack, he knows the situation, and fortunately I am talking with an honest man and a very good professional."

"When you love & work with them,U need to tell them the Truth" :Sabri Lamouchi reveals candid talks with Cardiff City's young Welsh talents

The Bluebirds trio have been used sparingly since the Frenchman came into the building back in January and over all have struggled to make previous managers teams accept for Mark Harris.

Mark Harris Striker: Aged 24 Bluebirds 82 Appearances 8 Goals out of contract this season.

Rubin Colwill Midfield: Aged 21 next month Bluebirds 56 Appearances Goals 5

Isaak Davies Striker: Aged 22 this year Bluebirds 33 Appearances Goals 2

By Glen Williams

Friday 10th March 2024

Sabri Lamouchi has revealed his stance on the young Welsh trio who find themselves on the periphery of his Cardiff City squad.

Mark Harris, Rubin Colwill and Isaak Davies have been used sparingly since the manager took the reins back in January, even struggling to make it on to the bench on many occasions.

Given Harris has played a big part up until Lamouchi was appointed and both Colwill, and Davies , are thought to be two of the brighter academy prospects the club have developed in recent years, their omissions have not gone unnoticed among supporters.

Instead, Lamouchi has changed formation and personnel, opting for more experienced players and the new signings made since he took over.

Harris started the manager's first game at Luton and then came off the bench for a minute in the next game against Hull City - he has not been named in a matchday squad since.

Colwill has been afforded just two cameos off the bench, which have totalled 16 minutes' worth of football, but was not named in five squads between those two outings. Isaak Davies has been given just five minutes off the bench against Middlesbrough.

At the moment, though, the players who are being selected are doing the business. Cardiff have won three of their last four games and have opened a gap of six points to the three teams in the drop zone, so Lamouchi's selection cannot be questioned.

However, with Colwill and Davies viewed as players who will play a big part in the club's fortunes in years to come - Harris' contract runs out at the end of the season at time of writing - many are wondering what this selection policy means for the future.

But Lamouchi must be commended for his candour, because he took no backwards step when asked about how he viewed the trio's situation.

SABRI LAMOUCHI:

"I'm just honest," he said when asked about how he has handled the situation pertaining to Harris, Davies and Colwill. "I just do my job and I just tell them the truth. Sometimes, in a good way, sometimes, in my way, but always the truth.

"They are not my kids, but I want to take care of them. Because we need them, I love them. But when you love them and work with them, you need to tell them the truth."

"When we play s***, you must say we played like that, that it was unacceptable. Sometimes I just tell them why and give them a reason. If you say it was bad without any reason or explanation, you can create some tension.

"They can come to my office because my door is always open."

"The first XI is always for a reason, the bench is always for a reason, they are out of the team for a reason. I don't have a problem to say the truth to all of them.

"Because my regard is to just put the best XI for the best result to save the club."

Even Lamouchi admits, though, that Cardiff will need them, whether that is in the coming months or whether he is thinking further ahead remains to be seen.

But presently, it seems very much like a case of getting over the finishing line, that being securing the club's status as a Championship side next season, before looking too far forward. A bit more breathing space and perhaps these talented prospects will be given their head once again.
