JAY BOTHROYD ON CARDIFF CITY AND ONE DAY RETURN?

Jay Bothroyd talks about Cardiff City and what might lie ahead
By Ian Mitchelmore

Jay Bothroyd believes Cardiff City are moving in the right direction again after admitting he had fallen out of love with watching his former club.

The Bluebirds have endured a torrid campaign and have been worryingly flirting with the relegation zone, although a run of three wins in four matches has seen Sabri Lamouchi's men move six points clear of the Championship's bottom three.

And Bothroyd highlighted the club's regular turnover of managers as one of Cardiff's biggest pitfalls during their recent struggles.

"Change in managers, no stability, no consistency, they're not scoring enough goals," he said of his ex-club's plight on Sky Sports News.

"It seems like chalk and cheese from when I was at Cardiff where we were one of the highest scorers pretty much every year, to now, there's a lot of difficulty.

"I don't look forward to a Saturday and a Sunday when Cardiff are playing. I get all of the fans on my Twitter feed saying 'lace your boots back up again'.

"Again, there's been a lot of inconsistencies and a lot of managerial changes. That doesn't help the squad because some managers might fancy you and other managers come in and they don't and they want to get rid of you.
"

Nevertheless, the forward, who netted 45 times during his three seasons in south Wales, says the Bluebirds' squad possesses enough talent to rise up the table.

"There's still a lot of football to be played," he added. "They've won three out of the last four now with the new manager so that's positive, they're moving in the right direction.

"They just need some more of that and they can move up the table as well because they do have some good players
."

Bothroyd developed a special bond with the Cardiff faithful during his three years at the club and to this day regularly engages with supporters on social media, such is his love for the Bluebirds.

And the 40-year-old says he would never turn down the opportunity to reunite with the club in some capacity in the future.

"I'd never say no to anything, especially a team like Cardiff," he added. "I played some of my best football there.

"I had a great rapport with the fans, it's an amazing city, especially when you're winning games. I can only imagine what it's like when you're not winning
."

Certainly one of my favourite past players. Remember him flicking a goal kick over his shoulder with his first touch and taking out 2 defenders at the time
Was never the same player after his England cap.

Yup, couldn't fit his head down the tunnel.

On his day one of the best strikers Cardiff have had in my 48 years of watching city However what he would add to Cardiff City now off the pitch apart from a match day host I don’t know . He does not strike me as someone who would be a good coach or mentor.

Good player on his day but as soon as he won his England cap he wouldn’t resign and couldn’t wait to leave us on a free for the biggest offer so went to little QPR!

Superb player and played for England the once too. Had it all and unplayable at times. What a team that was. Should have got promoted and no rebrand would have happened
