Not a good day: ‘ Cardiff City Today ‘

Tue Feb 28, 2023 8:14 am

UPDATED: Cardiff City U21’S lose again and to league 1 Charlton U21’S.

Campbell, Bagan, King, Zimba etc starting today:
No Harris, Davies or Colwill this time. But James Crole is named on the bench after seeing his loan to Torquay cut short following an ankle injury. Cian Ashford also on the bench after five months out through injury.

Addicks had a goal disallowed for offside, Isaac Jefferies saw close-range effort deflected on to the bar.

Cardiff City U21’s are at home to Charlton’s U21’s .

Will be interesting if Lamouchi does what he did last week and put 7 first team players to play again and to keep them fit and to be able to see how they are playing.

With the 7 first team players put in the U21 starting team last time out, City got a win after months of struggling.

Today City only started with Campbell, Bagan, King, Zimba;

Darren Purse's under-21s are back in action against Charlton Athletic.

The Bluebirds take on the Addicks at Leckwith, coming off the back of a 4-2 win over Millwall , after months of struggling results, which saw up to 7 the first-teamers, including Joel Bagan, Eli King, Vontae Campbell, Rubin Colwill, Isaak Davies and Mark Harris, involved.

Will Sabri Lamouchi see it fit for the players trying to muscle their way back into the senior side to get another outing ahead of the Severnside derby this weekend?

Kick-off at Leckwith is at 2pm.

Addicks had a goal disallowed for offside, Isaac Jefferies saw close-range effort deflected on to the bar.

Crole made his first appearance back in City colours off the bench in the second half of the 2-0 defeat by Charlton.

The Bluebirds were coming off the back of a thumping 4-1 win against Millwall, in which Mark Harris, Rubin Colwill and Isaak Davies all started, with the former netting the first goal.

However, none of the aforementioned trio were named in the side to take on the young Addicks. But with Crole back and Cian Ashford, who has been out for five months with an injury, named on the bench, the reinforcements looked ample.

Under-18s forward Tanatswa Nayakuhwa was given the nod to start up front with 21 year old Chanka Zimba and looked lively as Cardiff enjoyed some control in the first half.

Charlton, however, had the ball in the back of the net, only for it to be ruled out for offside, while Zimba had a shot from range held well by the Addicks goalkeeper before an Isaac Jefferies shot from close range was deflected on to the bar.

After a goalless first half, it was the visitors who then initially seized the initiative after the break in Leckwith. And it paid off with 15 minutes to go.

Richard Chin entered the Bluebirds' box and sent in a menacing cross across the face of goal. Henry Rylah escaped Jai Semenyo at the back post and tapped in from close range.

Xavier Benjamin thought he had levelled the tie deep in stoppage time when he tapped home Eli King's cross, but the Bluebirds skipper was adjudged to be offside. Then Ashford bent one on to the post with a lovely effort with just seconds to go.

Unfortunately for City, it allowed the Addicks to break and Daniel Kanu latched on to Rylah's pass to slot home the second

We are a very poorly coached side, play more like a team in the pub league, nobody seems to know what their team mates are going to do next.
