That was the season we knocked Spurs and Wrexham out of the cup. I remember all those games like they were yesterday. I think we went 1-0 up with Tony Evans scoring but lost 2-1. Duncan Mckenzie scoring the winner after kicking a defender in the heel as he was about to pass back to the keeper - think it was Albert"Dorothy" Larmour. That may even have been the last time we got to the 5th Round until we got to the final in 2008.

I was there, Evans goal was a pure gem, unfortunately the BBC TV technicians were on strike so the game never got televised, though the club had their own poor quality video of the game and goal!
Jimmy Andrews programme notes in our next match said:" The great dream is over", it was 50 years since we had won the FA Cup!

That Wrexham game was special as I remember, didn't they make it 2-2 in the last minute and while they were still celebrating, we kicked off and got the winner?

Yes. I remember some huge fat guy grabbing me & hugging me on the Grange end while celebrating, no idea who he was.

We played Luton in the 5th round in 94.

Yes i had forgotten that. I think that was the season we knocked Man City out with the goal from Nathan Blake. If i remember rightly we sold Blake the day before the Luton game. And a young lad named John Hartson was playing for Luton.

Yes. Straight from the kick off i think. Steve Grapes got to the by line and cut a ball back for John Buchanan who rather than blast it, calmly side footed it just inside the post. Cue mad celebrations

Scotman John 'Exocet' Buchanan, it was...! :notworthy:

Loved him as a player and he scored some real 'screamers' for us in his time...!

John Hartson and Ceri Hughes (later played for us) were the two wonder kids that Luton had unearthed and they more than deserved their win...

I got to know Big John Hartson and his family a few years ago and I honestly changed my opinion of him. A lovely man, who loves 'his' club in the same way we do 'ours' but (off camera) has a respect for us Bluebirds and is highly complimentary of our own Forever Blue... :bluescarf:

He will always be remembered of course for that infamous one against the Jacks, but he did score a lot of goals for us considering he was a midfield player.

He didn't slip, he was kicked in the heel as he was about to pass it back and fell over as a result That's the way i saw it anyway and i was right behind the goal in the Grange End. But it was a long long time ago. :old:

Didn’t they do something strange in the Bob Bank for that game? I have a memory of them dividing it into sections to try and stop the crushing.

Mind you, could be my memory playing tricks on me, it was a long time ago !!!

That's right, Hartson took some stick that day, can't blame Blakey for leaving so fast he was hot property after his goal against Man City, it was a shot at the Premier League and we wasn't very good tbh.

Your memory is not wrong. These were the days that pay on the day was the most common way of getting in even for big games. I think what happened was that Everton were given one side of the enclosure but it was strangely empty as a lot of Everton fans chose to pay to get on the Bob bank to have a scrap with City and hence the segregation. Ungrateful sods, seeing as a few years earlier we had helped them out at Tottenham when our game was called off and about 150 of us went to that game.

I remember it well. They had about a quarter / third of bob bank and streams of city fans poured from the Grange end and across the BB to meet them. Went off right infront of where we were standing. :old:
