Goalkeepers

I probably see a lot fewer games than most on here and maybe not enough to make judgements about things on the pitch. But it seems to me that our keepers are not as good as most of those we've had in years gone by. God - I sound like an old codger, which is what I am really. But it was interesting that Lamouche is chasing a new keeper at Nottingham Forest where he used to manage. He probably thinks this guy is better than what we've got. Many of you will be in a better position to judge so what do you think. Are our keepers good enough for this level?

We have had some good 1 & 2 at this club over the years .... From Irwin & Healey to Marshall & Heaton :bluebird:

Allsop should never have been beaten that easily from that far out for their first goal yesterday.

allsop should have saved the first for sure he got a glove on it too. It wasn’t in a crowd of bodies he had time to save it and id like to think I would have saved it. For the second goal he’s covering the front post but he’s even a yard or two in front of the post so when it’s pulled back he’s at sea. not a great days keeping.

on the whole we’ve got what we’ve expected from him. he hasn’t been brilliant but he’s also not made too many errors. That said he was a little lucky not to have made a huge error in the reading game.

one to monitor to end of season but he’s been a solid 6.

I rarely hear myself saying ‘that was a good save from Alsop’. He gets to most of the ones he should do tbf and the penalty save but I do wonder, particularly as we no longer seem to be playing out from the back, whether Alnwick maybe worth a shout.

The first keeper I remember was Dilwyn John. I can remember seeing him from the behind the goal at full stretch trying without success to stop a shot from an Exeter player. This was in 1966. We lost 0-1. But we've had some decent goalies since then and for long periods.

I've mentioned previously in other posts I'm really not convinced by his shot stopping or commanding his area and taking crosses. If I'm not then the players Infront of him can't be.
Heard a stat yesterday, he's been relegated the last 2 seasons on a row

Aaron Ramsdale had 2 relegations in 2 years with Bournemouth and Sheff Utd. Look at him this year. Relegations don't necessarily mean bad players.

Tbh mate some of the best keepers are in bad sides where they have to make more saves. I just don't have any confidence in Alsop to save or collect the ball.
Probably because we've been spoilt for keepers over the years

What do you mean he could see it. Mcguiness went to stop it and it went through his legs. Don't blame keeper for that.
