Boss Sabri Lamouchi says his goal:

Mon Feb 20, 2023 10:49 am

Boss Sabri Lamouchi says his goal is to "save the club".

"This is an exciting challenge but not an easy challenge," he explained. "I said yes to it for two reasons: it's an important club, Cardiff. And for the squad, because I believe in these players and their quality. It's just finding the right way to talk with them and the right way to play. It was the perfect plan in Birmingham and tonight, I am very happy for that.

"I'm really happy. Now I've won away and at home. So now we just need to focus on game after game. Our goal is still to save the club. But with this mentality, all together, we will do it. With this squad and mentality, we will do it.

"Every game in is tough in the Championship. We play four games in March, seven in April. Crazy. We need to get points like tonight and like at Birmingham and we will prepare the next one, Norwich."

If keeps us up, will have done a great job with the players we have. Would support him staying on next season then.

Loved his passion on Friday night, shows he cares. Much prefer him to the bully Morison already.

I get why he says we have good players, he wants to boost their confidence. But the quality we have is poor compared to many in this league and away from the top three, it's a poor league.

But we've improved game by game and he's doing well so far. Players seem to be on board.

I agree with you on Lamouchi.

However, I don’t agree with you about the quality of the squad.

Allsop, Romeo, Kipre, Ng, McGuinness, O’Dowda, Robinson, Wintle and Rinomhota are all players that would get into top half half Championship teams.

We’ve needed a manager who could get the best out of them. I thought it was Morison but having seen the transformation under Lamouchi maybe I was wrong.

Simple things, like getting wingers/wing backs to go outside their man and cross from the by-line instead of cutting in. Playing Sawyers in a position where he has the time on the ball he needs. Pressing higher up the pitch to keep the ball away from our danger zone.

These are all simple things but have transformed the way we play and number of chances we create. We still have to improve in terms of converting those chances but we can, at least, now see what the manager is trying to do.

I agree on Lamouchi, But 100% don’t agree this squad is good enough for next season or a play-off push.

Again, agree on Lamouchi.

Make good points on some of the players. Would make two exceptions.

Allsop makes an error most games, if Meite was a second quicker with his reaction when Allsop air kicked the ball then we would have been 1-0 down against Reading, in a game we dominated.

I rate Wintle but he makes a mistake every game. He's a solid Championship player but not a top 8 player.

If we want to stay up and then compete for the top half/top six next season then we will need 3 or 4 Premier League loans (if we're allowed) because I believe we'll need 7 or 8 class players just to compete.

The teams coming down are all likely to spend - Bournemouth have a rich owner now, Leeds have money, Southampton will retain most players apart from Ward Prowse, same goes for West Ham. Wolves/Leicester/Forest would all spend. Only exception is Everton but they have a top class manager now and don't think they'll go down.

Plymouth, likely to come up, also likely to spend money from what I hear. Sheffield Wednesday.. same goes.

Those who lose in the play offs and those who just miss out will also spend.

We'll spend peanuts as usual (again, if we're allowed to spend anything) so MUST rely on good loans.

Would like to see Kaba stay.

This all relies on us staying up, but I do have faith with Lamouchi in making that happen. He has to stay if he does keep us up.

Now that’s a different point. I think this squad is, and always has been, good enough to keep us up pretty easily. Certainly a lot easier than this season has panned out so far !!

However, if we do stay up I would say we need a striker (maybe Kaba depending on how he does), two quick wide players, another CM player to replace Ralls, a centre back (Kipre is only on loan), and a back up left back (presuming Collins is back).

But I said at the start of the season that this team was good enough to be in the top half and I stick with that and, I believe, Lamouchi is demonstrating that. He’s a good manager but even he couldn’t polish a t^*d !!!!!
