Mick McCarthy savours first Blackpool win:

Another former Cardiff City boss to get a little emotional on Saturday was Mick McCarthy, who enjoyed his first victory since taking over at Blackpool.

The Tangerines eased to a 1-0 win over Stoke City at Bloomfield Road to keep their hopes of survival alive, in what was McCarthy's first win as a manager since Cardiff's 2-1 success at Nottingham Forest in September 2021.

"That's my first win in a long time, that. I didn't need any reminding. I was a bit emotional at the end," he said.

"It seemed a long time to that final whistle after we went ahead. But I don't care when we score as long as we keep a clean sheet.

"The lads given me everything in every game. Some people think if you don't put in hard work then you get beat, but we keep putting in the hard yards. If you keep doing you'll get a break and we got one. They've had their luck but we deserved it.

"I didn't take the captaincy off Maxi for any other reason than I don't think keepers can affect the game as much. Callum's been brilliant again. And I said to Maxi 'if you play like that without the armband on, then why do you want it?' He was absolutely outstanding."

I've called the Blackpool Chairman with a glowing reference and a recommendation they give him a 2 to 3 year contract right now to stop him being 'tapped up' by Glagow Celtic or maybe Barcelona...

That should do it; and one less team to worry about in the relegation battle... ;)
