' Pundit sides with Ince on McGuinness controversy '

Former Queens Park Rangers striker Jamie Mackie has sided with Reading boss Paul Ince and insists Mark McGuinness should have been sent off in Cardiff City's win over the Royals on Friday night.

Ince was left furious by the decision to only show the Bluebirds man a yellow card for a lunge on Amadou Mbengue in the first half at Cardiff City Stadium, in a game the hosts would go on to win courtesy of Romaine Sawyers' superb stoppage-time drive.

And, while analysing the game for ITV's EFL highlights show, Mackie admitted he sympathised with the Reading boss, but added that Cardiff still deserved the three points.

"In my opinion it's a red card," he said. "The referee's got that wrong. McGuinness isn't in control of what he's doing.

"It's reckless and Mbengue luckily gets up in the end. I think it's a red card but Cardiff were definitely good for the three points.

"(Sabri) Lamouchi's gone in there and they've found a way, a bit more direct into (Sory) Kaba, with people running off him and I think it's changed. The atmosphere and the togetherness looked much better yesterday. Sol Bamba's back at the football club and they've got that togetherness again.

Still not a red for me. It wasn't reckless. It was robust and the player made an absolute meal of it when his team were under heavy attack from the excellent Bluebirds...

Agreed yellow card all day long, not a great tackle but he wasn't killing anyone either, book him move on perfectly correct.

All the dogshit officials we've had this season, nice to get something on our side! And 3pts

Probably a red, what is difficult is when the player makes a meal of it.

However, we have had some terrible decisions against us this season so glad we were on the positive side of a poor decision.

Ince is such an odious oxygen sucking negative individual.

It's a clear red, if their player had his leg planted in the turf, he could have easily had a broken leg from that challenge. It was a reckless, out of control lunge with studs showing, it's amazing how McGuinness didn't get sent off. We are due some luck though.

The games gone soft, that would have been one of my gentle tackles in the 80's, the ref wouldn't have probably given a free kick, just shouted 50/50 play on.

Modern football 100% a red card.
Out of control, leading with his studs and shin high.
