UNCARING? WHAT 'VALUE' JOE RALLS TONIGHT...?

Tue Feb 14, 2023 10:18 pm

What a cameo from substitute Joe Ralls tonight!

The player some say doesn't care put his foot right where it needed to be and stopped a certain Birmingham goal...

On the field for less than 10 minutes but had a major impact with the score at 0 - 1

Well done, Joe Ralls... :ayatollah:

I don’t think many people doubt his commitment.

The criticism is that he shouldn’t start in-front of Wintle and Rinomhota and nothing that happened tonight would change that opinion.

Spot on Chris. That crucial clearance meant two points. I love Joe, I know his best days may be a little behind him so maybe he does come off the bench at the right time, or starts when the game suits etc. Absolute workhorse who doesn't flatter to deceive and does all the jobs others don't or won't. I get the criticism, especially as players reach a certain age but we are always better when he's around and about.

Tim, a number certainly did; those who feel a 'need' to have a 'scapegoat' to vent their personal frustrations out on every season...

A fantastic block stopping a guaranteed goal.

Maybe Sabri has found the best way to use Joe!

Saturday he was 2nd to a majority of balls and really did look like he was going through the motions. Maybe I was wrong but evidence on the pitch suggested otherwise.

I can’t fault his commitment to the club, he’s stayed with us when others have jumped.

Let’s see how he’s used and how he plays for the rest of the season

Brilliant challenge. Would have certainly been 1-1 otherwise and we'd have been unlikely to win the game as we did.

I personally don't think he should be starting games and think Lamouchi made the right decision tonight by putting him on the bench. But that's mostly down to his ability these days and the fact that he can't cover as much ground anymore around the midfield due to his age. He still has a great work ethic.

Tonight proved he can still have a valuable contribution from the bench. He's been an important player around the club for years now and still has a part to play in this relegation battle.

Not sure how anyone could ever legitimately question his commitment, and that showed again tonight.

I've criticised Sawyers a lot and said before the game that I wasn't sure why he was starting every game under the new manager. But he was much better tonight. Proved that he can do a good job in a midfield three with Rinomhota, who will happily do all the running, and Wintle.

Good shout Sven, Ralls may be more effective with the direct, attritional style that we played tonight.

My thoughts too mate. Nobody can fault JRs commitment to the cause.

Great post. My opinion on Joe is, he's at that age where he'll thrive that bit deeper. Over the years we've seen him box to box, ok goal return, screamers, all action.

I think now he should be used to protect the back four, and that only. He's one of the few in this team that knows when to really get stuck in and win a challenge.

He has a very important role in this run in, and is one of us! Get behind him!

What a refreshing positive post Chris, usual suspects saying he can't run, passing is crap, blah blah, but with that block he showed that you don't need to run around all night if you have the footballing brain to be right place by reading the game.

Sabri deserves praise for the subs also. Birmingham made 4 just before, the reaction won us 3 points; in my opinion.

That thread was started by the multi Ninian27 (BarryWelsh) and then predictably joined by another multi, (not from) BarnetBlue and completed by the third stooge, MikeP. I note that the Three Stooges have been again predictably very quiet since last night. Funny that

Fair enough, I just don’t think one tackle justifies him being picked to start games.

By all means bring him on to finish off victories (!!) but he doesn’t merit a starting spot.

Sorry, Tim. I simply pointed to his commitment to the cause. Starting games is a separate issue indeed... :ayatollah:
