Forget Warnock and McCarthy at Huddersfield and Blackpool respectively.
We just need to centre on getting 48 points, which will be enough to preserve Championship football for next season.
There are 15 games to play - starting at St Andrews Stadium, Birmingham tonight.
There are 19 points required how and where we get them who cares - but obtain them we must. I don't buy into the argument our squad is of good enough quality to stay up in the Championship - you need to earn that right.
In the 1973-74 season we had relegation written all over us. Players were poor and tired looking - the likes of the late Gil Reece and Johnny Vincent. But the vital signing of Willie Carlin was made - a pocket-sized midfield dynamo from Notts County. He was mid-thirties, but was the glue that saved the ship. We had that surprise 3-2 home win over that season's champions Middlesbrough, managed by Jack Charlton. The last-day 1-1 with Crystal Palace in front of over 27,000 at Ninian Park relegated the London team and saved us.
I can still see the late Tony Villars' right foot equaliser scream into the net at the Grange End. I just question whether our current squad has the leadership within it to stave off relegation.
Here is hoping we see fight tonight in Bordsley Green, Birmingham.
