It was the timing and opportunity. We don’t have a lot of opportunity or a lot of time. He was around and training. His experience in this league can help us and help the squad.

Wickham, 29, left League One side Forest Green Rovers last month after his short-term deal came to an end.

Wickham who is very injury prone, did score 6 goals in 16 games for Forest Green, but was not offered another contract.

Wickham knows Cardiff City assistant manager Dean Whitehead and had been training with the Cardiff City squad and doing more rehabilitation with the Cardiff physio’s.

Connor Wickham is keen to sign up with the Bluebirds.

Wickham at 29 years old has had 10 clubs.

Absolutely. Very good experience. I remember him years ago. I spoke with him and saw him on the pitch. Physically big with quality and experience.

If he can stay injury free I believe it will be a good decision. There's no doubting he had ability and hopefully can rediscover it

How hopeful are you of getting the Wickham deal over the line? Is it close?




I think so. But they are talking with the club, he is training with us. So I hope this is a question of a short time. I don't think it will be a tough problem for both parties.

Will he play this weekend?


Even if they find the solution of a deal between them, I will not put him in for this game. The game is after tomorrow. I have players more ready than him. So for sure he will help us, but not Saturday.

Maybe the delay is because Tan and Dalman aren’t in Cardiff (as per usual apparently even though they run the business on a daily basis).

But we all know Conor isn’t a robust player and that we aren’t likely to get many games out of Wickham before he suffers another injury. Any contract awarded should be on a “pay as you play” basis.

Forest Green don't want him so we will take him anyone cheap tbh but it is what it is right now.

I get that real life isn't like football manager or FIFA where you can sign someone in seconds but I never understand when a free agent takes so long to sign. It seems we've been close to signing him for over a week now, it's not like he's got any other offers. Do you think it's a medical issue?

Surely having numbers and having options/pressure on the existing strikers would be good going into fixtures expecially 3 in a week.
