BREAKING SABRI LAMOUCHI: ' THURSDAY 9TH FEBRUARY 2023 '

Thu Feb 09, 2023 9:11 am

:bluebird: :bluebird: " SABRI LAMOUCHI UPDATES CARDIFF CITY FANS " :bluebird: :bluebird:

Cardiff have not won a game for well over 3 months and only scored 1 goal in their last 7 League games.

SABRI LAMOUCHI:

"Of course we have the players and the squad for scoring goals that. We have quality. We have to do more. Each player has to do more to try to change that."

"We are trying to sign Connor Wickham, so he is training with us. I hope he will be part of the squad."

Thursday 9th February 2023

Sabri Lamouchi on Cardiff:

“We have to panic.

“We’re in this shit position and we need to work together to get out of this position.”

Mahlon Romeo and Ebou Adams?

Update on Mahlon is that he started the week training with us. So he will be available for the game.

And Ebou Adams?

Not yet. He’s not training yet.

Lamouchi

SABRI LAMOUCHI:

How is the squad looking?

No problem at all. Just maybe Rubin Colwill received a kick in his ankle, so he didn’t train yesterday. We will check him today. I don’t think it’ll be serious. We will see today.

Confidence?

For me, to start with two games away, Luton and Hull, we deserve better and more than that. We don’t get any points. We have to work, we have to focus and try to change this lost confidence.

How? Just to do what we have to do, a little bit different, with more aggressiveness and determination until the final whistle of the game.

I can’t complain about the players. They try, the small details and mistakes make big consequences.

Luton for me, one point and a clean sheet would have been a perfect result. But in the end we lost.

We created more at Hull but we didn’t score there. If you don’t score, maybe we lose confidence. But we must work and believe and play for that.

SABRI LAMOUCHI:

Goals have been the problem - confident you have the players?

Of course we have the players and the squad for scoring goals . We have quality. We have to do more. Each player has to do more to try to change that.

We are close, but at the same time we are not so close. We must be more determined in the right areas.

We are doing better and better, session after session, game after game. Against a different team this weekend, maybe the best one, I love the way they play. The manager, Michael, is doing a great job there.

Akpom is having the best time of his career.

But we play at home, an important game. This is the first of 16 finals. We must be ready. We start the week with a good session to try to show them what was good and not good in the last two games and step by step, we will see.

Sabri Lamouchi: We must win five or six games to stay up

Sabri Lamouchi believes Cardiff have to win "five or six" of their last 16 games in order to avoid relegation.

Easier said than done, of course, given they haven't won a football match since November 5, but it's clear the Frenchman has a points target in mind that he wants to get to sooner rather than later.

"Five or six," he said when asked how many games they need to win in their final 16 to avoid relegation.

"But before we win, we need to score. We need to score and play better. If we play better and score then maybe you get confidence. If you get confidence then maybe you get a chance to win.

"Maybe the confidence will then be back and then we will get out of this situation. We have to."

SABRI LAMOUCHI:

Serious situation. Have you felt urgency from players?

Oh yes. Especially at the end of the game. They were so disappointed and upset. Everyone can understand the situation. We are clever people - not crazy enough to ignore the situation.

We have to work, score, get points, win and try to change this moment.

SABRI LAMOUCHI:

How hopeful are you of getting the Wickham deal over the line? Is it close?

I think so. But they are talking with the club, he is training with us. So I hope this is a question of a short time. I don't think it will be a tough problem for both parties.

SABRI LAMOUCHI:

Will he play this weekend?

Even if they find the solution of a deal between them, I will not put him in for this game. The game is after tomorrow. I have players more ready than him. So for sure he will help us, but not Saturday.

SABRI LAMOUCHI:

Have you spoken to Darren Purse? Do you think any U21s could play a part?

Yeah. It was so nice, even for him to come and to introduce himself and to take time to come with me to ask me what I need.

So it will help me and it will help us. The problem is, we have players available to play with the first team right now. I'm not sure some of them will. They are training with us. They are ready to train. They are ready to play. Not yet.

Boro - show you things can change?

Yeah. Everything in the Championship can be quick in one way or another. We just need to believe in what we are doing every day.

First home game?

For the first game at home. It’s really important. We hope to give them the warm welcome they gave me on my first day.

It’ll be a difficult game, I know, but I know in this league, everything is possible.

Connor Wickham?

Probably. We are discussing. We are trying to sign him, so he is training with us. I hope he will be part of the squad.

It was the timing and opportunity. We don’t have a lot of opportunity or a lot of time. He was around and training. His experience in this league can help us and help the squad.

How helpful will that be?

Absolutely. Very good experience. I remember him years ago. I spoke with him and saw him on the pitch. Physically big with quality and experience.

What have you made of the players or what has surprised you?

Look, to be honest, I was thinking this is an interesting challenge, but it's a very tough challenge. But the squad has quality enough to go out and to achieve the goal at the end of the season.

Where I am so impressed, they're all good boys. And maybe so good. And so nice. I'm surprised about that. But it’s so, so good to work with these kinds of people.

Even from the club, they love the club, they're close to the club. They're working for the players, the infrastructure is good.

So we just need to start to win points, games and to change that. But I'm so impressed about the mentality, about people around in this situation.

I know in a different place it would be a mess. Completely crazy. Not here. That is the right way. This is good. This is good.

We just need to, to follow our idea to change the determination, maybe a little bit about the mentality to be more aggressive, and focus in what we want to achieve. And to give our best.

Lamouchi: Under-21s not ready to step up:

Bluebirds boss Sabri Lamouchi does not envisage any of the club's under-21s stepping up to the first team any time soon.

Lamouchi said he met with the under-21s manager Darren Purse and said some of the younger players are training with the senior squad, but that's about as far as their involvement is likely to go for the time being.

"It was so nice, even for [Purse] to come and to introduce himself and to take time to come with me to ask me what I need," Lamouchi said of the under-21s boss.

"So it will help me and it will help us. The problem is, we have players available to play with the first team right now. I'm not sure some of them will. They are training with us. They are ready to train. They are ready to play. Not yet."

Striker signing close:

Cardiff City manager Sabri Lamouchi hopes the club get a deal over the line for free agent striker Connor Wickham.

It was revealed this week that the Bluebirds were mulling over a deal for the player, who left Forest Green Rovers last month, after first-team coach Dean Whitehead brought him into the building.

And manager Lamouchi revealed the player has been training with the club and Cardiff are trying to finalise a deal to add him to the squad in order to boost their chances of survival.

When asked if Wickham was going to sign, Lamouchi replied: "Probably. We are discussing. We are trying to sign him, so he is training with us. I hope he will be part of the squad.

"It was the timing and opportunity. We don’t have a lot of opportunity or a lot of time. He was around and training. His experience in this league can help us and help the squad.

"He has very good experience. I remember him years ago. I spoke with him and saw him on the pitch. Physically big with quality and experience."

Wickham scored six goals in 16 games in all competitions for the League One club earlier in the season and has since been searching for a club.
