‘ Ollie Tanner ‘

Thu Feb 09, 2023 7:53 am

Ollie Tanner's manager at Non League Strugglers York City, David Webb has been sacked.

Webb had a link with former Bluebirds boss Mark Hudson and wanted Tanner for the second half of the season to help the National League club to stave off relegation.

Tanner has played three games for the club since moving to York five weeks ago, all of which they have lost, leaving the Yorkshire club struggling down in 18th.

A club statement read: "York City FC can confirm that first-team manager David Webb has been relieved of his duties with immediate effect.

"We would like to thank David for his efforts over the last few months and wish him all the best for the future.

"The club has commenced its search for a new manager, and we will bring further communication on who will take interim charge in due course."

Another youngster not getting game time at a relegation threatened National League side.

Came on as a sub with two minutes left in their last game.

Jonny,

What clown sends apparently one of the best stars City have ever seen to a struggling Non League club?

So Tanner will be 22 years old when he returns to us, really should be by now good enough to play for us?????

He’s obviously not good enough for championship football and being loaned back to a Non league team says it all

He looked completely unfit when I watched him before Xmas in an under 21 game. Spent most of the game puffing and blowing

My guess is he will never play for us again in a competitive match

So he cant get on until the very end for York who are struggling in the National League, yet we brought him on with about 20 minutes left when we were 2-1 up against Leeds and hanging on for dear life! Says it all.

Certainly not a younster anymore. As you say, at 22, he should have found his grade. Apparantly its not National League level.

Never understand that one as he looked completely lost.

Jules,

But according to Dalman & Glen Williams, Tanner was virtually going to be a super star for us

We had lots of supporters saying he would be great . This was totally based on youtube videos and the fact he had a trial with Spurs We were being lead to believe he picked us over Spurs
He does have something to his game that many of our youngsters don’t But going down to York and not really getting a game is not a good sign

The local media Glen Williams aka Dalman built Tanner up beyond and i actually said to Glen dont as the lad does not need this pressure, hes been playing only non league 9th league and this jump to Championship is massive. But The Regime and Glen built up all these free and cheap signings beyond, so that fans did not moan we were not spending.

The year before that they built up 10-12 of our academy players as they were not spending again, where are all those players now and what did the majority achieve?

From the little I've seen of him, he doesn't seem match fit and he also seems a little wanting with his positional sense.

He looked bright in the Villa friendly. I was surprised to see him shipped out.

What professional would allow himself to become so unfit that he is ‘huffing and puffing’ any footballer serious about a career in the upper echelons of the football pyramid would maintain a serious level of fitness at all times to serve his team whenever called upon. Obviously there is match sharpness/fitness but a good level of fitness should be a basic requisite of any serious professional.

I would like to see him get a few sub appearances for us rather than at a team in trouble in non league. He came from well below Championship level, and as was mentioned above, he looked half decent v Villa and took his goal very well. Perhaps the Leeds game was the wrong time to do this, but I don't buy this he should have found his level by now - he hasn't featured since he joined us so how do we know what his level is? I'm afraid I don't trust Hudson's judgement on that. Let's try and get to safety and then give the kid a chance to show what he can do before we write him off.

That was my impression when he came on against Leeds.

It was obvious to me what Tan was doing because it was cheap. I called this out and got knocked down by the Tan lovers as you call them. Lets see I told them. Well we have seen it all now.

Adding to the let down of these youngsters we were paying high wages to a bunch of crock like Vassel and Murphy. What a mess hey that will see us in League One. Something has got to change else we will be lucky to stay in League One.

Yes I said similar Ian,

I got called negative etc , but common sense could tell you what Tan & Dalman were doing, putting cheap inexperienced players & managers on and it’s totally backfired, which was guaranteed to.

I believe he was partly responsible for the Leeds equaliser as he didn't close down in the build up, he just stood there.
