Our real problem is that we are not getting enough good ball

Sat Feb 04, 2023 5:42 pm

Our real problem is that we are not getting enough good balls in or around the box to score. This includes crossing from wide areas as well as threading through quality balls.

We can have the best strikers in the world ….. but if you don’t create the chances you’re not going to score. When we get the occasional good ball ….. our strikers are found wanting.

I mentioned something similar in another thread. We need to finally ditch Morisons and Hudsons playing the right way for two centre forwards and two wingers who can cross the ball

Couldn't agree more and I said the same at the start of the season when most on here were busy blaming our lack of goals on Watters but nothing has changed, we still couldn't score in a brothel.

our real problem is apart form 4 or 5 players, the rest belong in the national league or cardiff parks

Wintle was awful today. His delivery from corners especially. The quality of crosses again very poor. We looked most threatening going 4 4 2 and just playing two old fashioned centre forwards, I liked Kaba, looks a handful. Robinson cost us the game, score first and we would have got at least a point today. He really has been a disappointing signing for me. Misses more than he scores and his three game ban was hugely costly too.

Very True mate it’s been like this all season with all our strikers, they are not getting any service from the midfield or winger’s, what surprised me today was when we had corners we played them short, when we had Kipre,Mcgu’ss, Sory Kaba, Kion Etete and went short. It’s just not the strikers fault they can’t all be Bad and a few that we have had and lost for one reason or other , and a few want some of them back, It’s just not the answer. Taxi for OJO ,Sawyers, :ayatollah:

This squad has got to be the worst bunch of crossers/set pieces takers I have ever witnessed in a city shirt. We literally have no dedicated set piece takers (other than Robinson on pens…) Even in the weaker squads we have had over the years, we have always had a set piece expert on the pitch, even when we didn’t have Whitt’s playing we still had options. Our past wingers were also adequate at crossing.

Annis, I missed the game completely today due to work but was kept up to speed by my goof friend GrangeEndStar...

Clearly, the penalty miss was crucial and in the zone of 'not the best' of kicks. Beyond that I am told that the Bluebirds had the best of the chances in the game but chances for us were few and far between, as Sabri Lamouchi seemingly looks to shore up the defence and rely on counter-attacks in the search for goals

That style is not a problem other than it redyces the number of Bluebird attacks and by default the number of goal-scoring chances for a profligate team in that area, i.e. the opposition half

Then, as is fast becoming a theme, we fell to the sucker punch and eventually lost by a single goal again

Maybe a positive was the introduction of Sory Kaba after 55 mins? I can't say for sure at this point on that one, as I have no idea how he looked?

A loss by a single goal is a small positive. We're not being hammered; but that lack of goals is costing us and Lamouchi needs to sort out the attacking options for the team

A(nother) huge game at home versus in-form Middlesbrough next week and the pressure building on all involved...

I agree quality was awful today, 6 crosses from Ojo, he can't get the ball past the first man, finally a good ball in at the end and Kaba nearly scores. We also need to speed up our play, faster passing, one pass instead of two!

Philogene first half had a one on one and the ball ended up in our own half.
