' Highly Rated Cardiff City Player Goes out '

Wed Feb 01, 2023 10:12 am

Jack Leahy aged 20, very highly rated by the coaching staff at Cardiff City and the Committee has gone on loan to Welsh league club Haverfordwest County to the end of the season.

City still have 17 Under 21 games still to be played, surely better quality, plus why not to a League 1 or 2 club.
In the last 13 years i have yet to see a City player make the grade for us after going out to clubs as low as these.

Glen Williams aka Dalman, when asked about Leahy, plus Tom Davies going to Pontypridd United said: Cardiff City want to invest in the Welsh football pyramid  - while providing them with an opportunity to play men's football.

I can see the sense in investing in the Welsh pyramid system because this is where we are heading at this rate!! :banghead:

Any decent player is a first team regular at 20 at whatever level that may be

Ours are loaned out to teams about 20 divisions below us in the League pyramid

If your not in the first team at the age of 20 you never will be!!

Exactly, I said this yesterday and Wez said but they are still kids

I agree, Wez I have watched him many times and to send him to Haverfordwest is a big backwards step.
But apparently Glen Williams says we will be helping Welsh football

Always said Tanner was bought as they thought they could make money on him, probably the same for Etete to, now all the youngsters are leaving but we still keep Colwill, who in my humble opinion is now where good enough for Championship football. :bluebird:

Is there some issue with the international loan thing. Wales being out home FA. That shit needs sorting if it's costing us loans in and out!!

International loan rules again.

Much easier to convince academy products who haven’t broken through yet to drop to the Welsh league than players we’ve brought in from elsewhere.

Club starting to play stupid games again.

Since when has Leahy been 'highly rated'? He's been with us nearly two seasons and not broken into the 1st team squad yet.

If he’s that highly rated why the hell is he not with the first team. Sadly another name that will disappear into mediocrity in the new season or so.

Would your really want to bring in a untried youngster the situation we are in. Doesn't matter who it is it could destroy their confidence

Not saying he's that good, never seen him play but have heard he's got promise

Re: ' Highly Rated Cardiff City Player Goes out '

So why do these players and/or their agents agree to send them to such low level clubs?
Surely they know this is seemingly a backwards step in their careers! The Welsh League is too low a quality for players with aspirations to play in the professional full time game to learn anything. Personally, I think I’d be very disillusioned if I was either Leahy or Davies.

Agree with you on the level they are going to, think others have mentioned it but I wouldn't be surprised if it's to do with new rules for international loans etc

Because that's his level clearly. Sat on the bench for York says it all tbh a team I watched for a good few years as a kid while living up that way when they was in the leagues

Never known a club with so many highly rated youngsters who never make it in the game. As a club we either have set the bar low to what is deemed highly rated or something really goes wrong after 18

Ian,

But Tanner was supposedly this super player we had suddenly discovered.

when signing loans (Wales - England) they are classed as international loans i believe so that might have something to do with it. i don't know if he is/will be good enough, he might be, he might not. all i know is, he will be playing against men week in week out, which every former player says is alot better than just playing in the u23s

Men from the League of Wales?

Its as easy to let them go on loan to league 1 & 2 clubs.

For me the League of Wales or Non League are beyond low standard for a Championship player to go out to.

Please could you name any player who has come back from these type of clubs and become a Successful Championship player?

still, it could toughen him up, like i said i don't know if he's good enough to make it or not.
i don't know how international loans work, there might be some other requirements for these so not sure if that was an issue regarding a lack of lower league clubs.

but if you are asking regarding players who have played in the league of wales who then went on do better things there are a few, Akinfenwa, was at Barry town i believe, ended up playing in the championship, Lee Trundle, Rhys Healy, Owain Tudor Jones, Christian Doidge, we had Mark Delaney ,Andy Cooke (just looked him up now, played with Burnley and Stoke

like i said annis, i'm not saying he's going to make it or not, but surely at that age for me, he should have made it now, so letting them go is good for us, as it means we now have a spot in the U23s that maybe a 16, 17 or even 18 year old might be able to make the jump up and impress.

NO, I asking players that Cardiff have sent out on loan to Non League, League 1 & Welsh league?

For me like you he should of made it by now.

I can yet another clear out this Summer, unless of course we are relegated.
