Cardiff City tried to take out £20 million Insurance

Thu Jan 19, 2023 3:38 pm

Just read this on the Mail on Line Cardiff tried to take out £20 million insurance on star player Emiliano Sala the morning after he was killed The case has gone to court but the insurers say it was Cardiff's responsibility to insure him on time not theirs.
Can't see us winning this case either :bluebird:

The morning after? Find that difficult to believe.

I would say the club applied for insurance before the flight but somewhere along the line it was never completed for one reason or the other. It will be interesting to find out why.

Don't believe everything you read, probably in a panic to see if he was covered, we are suing to say as brokers it's their professional advisory duty to ensure new player signings are covered, who knows what will come of it?

That's the more likey case. You would have thought there would be a general insurance policy covering all players signed by the club rather than having to take out a policy each and every time a player is signed. Perhaps the issue here is that Cardiff only paid for such cover for signings worth a certain value and didn;t find out until the day after that Sala was in excess of this so therefore should have either registered him seperately or taken out a new higher value policy and are now suing the brokers for not pointing this out to them.

All really depends on the terms and conditions of the policy and what brokers are being paid to do when their clients are undertaking a transaction that would be in breach of such terms and conditions. Hopefully City's lawyers have looked at this, feel the brokers are liable for not pointing out that the potential Sala purchase would not be covered and having first advised them to prove via the courts that Sala was indeed a City player, then recommended that they sue the broker.
