DEAN WHITEHEAD:

“I am looking forward to the weekend and the Millwall game.”

"The league table tells us where the club is right now. We need wins and we need wins quick. We will be prepared and ready for Saturday. We have to start getting results and results quickly.“

"The board said to me that Saturday is really, really important, so we picked the team that way, (against Leeds) for that reason, and our focus now is purely on Millwall and getting a positive result against them."

Asked if he expected to be in charge of the club on Saturday, he replied: "Yes."

The last two managers at Cardiff, Steve Morison and Mark Hudson, have been promoted internally to take the job as first-team boss on a permanent basis.

But Whitehead would not be drawn on the prospect of that happening to him. When asked if he had thrown his hat in the ring to get the job full time, he added: "No, I've literally just had two days preparing the team for today and preparing the team for Saturday. We will see what happens after."

Whitehead bemoaned a number of individual errors in his own assessment of the game.

"We made a lot of errors, lots of mistakes," he said. "But we felt that at half time we changed the shape and we looked a little bit more solid at start the second half.

"Then, again, we made some technical errors. We talked about not playing through the middle of Leeds, because of their aggressive counter press. And we got punished every single time that we did make mistakes in that area.“

"But to come back in the last five or 10 minutes and score two, I think we have to take positives from it. We have to take that into Saturday.

"It's good to get Robbo (Callum Robinson) on the pitch. He hasn't trained much or played much in the last three weeks. So to get two goals, we'll take a positive going into the weekend."

Shocking statement tbh, should have told the fans who paid good money to travel to watch us fight for a place in the next round, not a side picked because your thinking about Millwall on Saturday, sums up the shit show that is our club at the moment. Every one of those fans who travelled should be refunded by the Club.

No doubt if Millwall beat us, you will say, well we did have a game in midweek and they didnt!

Anyone with a half ounce of sense could see that was the plan last night and it happens with most teams in the championship in the 3rd round of the cup.To be fair to Whitehead he knew what he had to do and you can surely see the reaction had one of our leading players got crocked or picked up a booking that got them suspended. For me personally last nights game shed more light on some of the players that are clearly not up to it and maybe will be shown the door this month. Given our predicament Whitehead made the same calls as anyone with any football nouce would have made.

Agree completely.
Whitehead was on a hiding to nothing.
Let’s hope we see something to be proud of on Saturday.

Why the hell would we try go all out and win vs Leeds? Who cares about the cup, we need to stay in the Championship. Half the reason is why we played like we did.

Whitehead would said "go out give it a go see what you can do and not worry to much about the result, dont get injured".

Why wouldn't we go out and try and win, might as well have given them game then, might as well have told the travelling fans, don't bother going up because we are only going to have a go.... :banghead:

My apologies I bow down to your expertise and 3/4 ounce of sense, since when have we been a club who show absolutely no fight or inkling of what they were doing?

Cause the league is more important, but yeah the only people that really lose out are the fans who made the effort to go up other end of the country mid week

I see no blame attached to Whitehead.
Whatever happened he was on a hiding to nothing.

Good luck to him on Saturday though.

Who cares about the cup? I care about it. And so did the 800 who spent good money, took time off work and got home at 3 o clock this morning
