It's obviously an amusing syndrome from the outside but it's an awful one to live with I can assure you. There's over a hundred different forms of Tourettes and I was diagnosed with one of them 4 months ago. It is something that on bad days can really affect you and others around you. The worst thing about it is that any mental health issue is almost totally ignored by the NHS and you either have go private or wait 8-9 months on a waiting list.
Anyway, I've always said that you shouldn't feel bad about laughing at someone with Tourettes because I would, just remember that there's a different side to the coin and thank god that it isn't you.

my sister-in-law has tourettes.
sometimes it can be funny but sometimes embarrassing.
i have had to defend her numerous times and even had fights because of it.

i meant no offence..i actually think their funny people. not because they have tourettes (thats just sick) but the things they come out with. having tourettes doesnt stop them having a laugh, thats the only reason i find it funny.
e.g. when the womans talking about a minder and johnny says "arthur daly".
ive seen documentries about people with tourettes and you see the real side of it, which isnt amusing in the slightest.
if i offended anyone then i apologise. having a mental illness is not something i find funny at all as theres a long line of family members in my family who have suffered with dementia. and even if some of the things they used to do were funny, dementia is anything but.

Mate honestly, I wasn't offended at all and I didn't mean it to come accross like that. I just meant that as funny as it is, there's always another side. Before I had anything to do with it, I actually watched this documentary and almost pissed myself. Especially when he says that he dyes his pubes Ginger lol.
To the other poster about defending your sister-in-law. That's natural but thankfully now that Tourettes is being more publically aware, alot more people can handle it when they come across someone with it. Not everyone mind but it's getting there.
I suffer from a tick based tourettes which is more of a facial spasm rather than involuntary swearing etc but it can be just as hard. You feel a freak but I'm learning to switch off from it now and can deal with it better when in public.
Anyway, sorry if you felt I had taken it the wrong way. I didn't at all but I'm glad you posted the video because it's just more awareness for a syndrome people know very little about!
