Mark Hudson:

"If we play like we did against Leeds then we will give ourselves a good opportunity to win the game.”

“For the players to be clear on what the game plan is, we have a plan in place and for them to carry that out."

Mark Hudson:

"We can bring in loans and free transfers."

With the Transfer Embargo finally lifted and Hudson now able to strengthen, things of the pitch are looking better.
Hudson has made it clear he is mainly happy with his squad and says it’s full of quality and has strength in depth. :bluebird:

Cardiff face Wigan at home this Saturday and Cardiff are without a win in the last 2months and Mark Hudson will be looking to finally put that right.

As Bottom of the Championship Wigan have only won once in their last 14 league games AND have had 4 x 4-1 hammerings:

Mark McGuinness is back with Cardiff City and training :bluebird: :bluebird:

Mark McGuinness is back in Cardiff and trained with the Bluebirds :bluebird: :bluebird:

MARK HUDSON:

"Mark McGuinness consistency has been very good. His consistency of performance, he's been outstanding for Wednesday.".

"The run that they've been on as well goes hand in hand, really. So he has been brilliant and done really well up there. He is a top kid and a great character. He's raring to go for us." :thumbright: :bluebird:

Mark Hudson:

"Callum Robinson lost 6 kilos through illness"

MARK HUDSON:

"We have been working on certain aspects of the game which will improve us. We get from our box to the opposition's box really well and then it's about simplifying it,"

“We are scoring goals and getting everything right on the training ground.”

McGuinness available?

He is back training. We are just waiting on a technicality with FIFA. That hasn’t come through as of yet.

Squad - missing players for Leeds game, how is it now?

Rubin, Gav and Cedric were all out. They have been poorly. It’s been a return to play over the last couple of days. Still to be assessed ahead of tomorrow.

They are all back in the building and back on the grass. There was a small group I took yesterday.

Robinson is available. Rubin is available. They are all available, but they have been poorly. There’s been a lot going around. They have missed quite a bit. Robbo lost six kilograms since he has been off ill. We have to be mindful of that. We have to protect them.

MARK HUDSON:

"We have been working on certain aspects of the game which will improve us. We get from our box to the opposition's box really well and then it's about simplifying it.”

"I thought we were really attacking against Leeds.. We picked and chose when we went. The recovery runs were brilliant. You could see the togetherness and there were two really good goals.

"It gives us an opportunity to review it as well. To show what we worked in in the week can be out into action at the weekend.

"There were some really good passages of play. We knew we could restrict them and pose a threat on the goal even if we were deeper. We got it spot on. They have all put themselves in the right frame of mind to continue to kick on. I'm proud and they should be proud. They are, they are in good spirits."

It's too early to bill Cardiff's clash with Wigan Athletic a relegation six-pointer, but it's a crucial match from which Hudson and Co need a win. Should they emulate the Leeds game and employ similarly positive, attacking tactics, it gives them a far greater chance.

Embargo?

The club have worked extremely hard to pay that first instalment. There is a period of time where FIFA will then lift theirs and that will go hand in hand with Macca’s situation.

They have worked really hard to get that lifted. We will know more today, I think.

It will be done. We have got the go ahead to explore options. Just waiting on a small technicality which should be done today.

The Embargo?

Must be a relief?

Yeah! The club has been working hard and has been ongoing for a long period of time. With this process, it’s been going on years. But this gives people a lift and we can look at targets and what we can strengthen.

Why do you need more players after 17 signings?

"That’s always the question! When you’re recruiting to bring in that amount of players in the summer. We were left with nine pros. We had to build a squad. Whether you get those right or they fit into your way of playing, but the lads have been brilliant.

If there is someone coming in they have to come into that dressing room and make a difference."

The atmosphere was outstanding. The noise level, I could feel it. I know it’s difficult to come to every game, but the more we can pack out our ground, excite them and play like we did. We can all feel united.

Mark Hudson clarifies Cardiff City's Mark McGuinness situation and highlights most impressive aspect of Sheffield Wednesday loan

The defender has had a fantastic season on loan at Sheffield Wednesday so far

Mark Hudson has confirmed that Mark McGuinness is back in the building at Cardiff City but the club are waiting on a FIFA technicality before they are able to officially re-register him as a player.

The Bluebirds were the subject of a transfer embargo in this window owing to the failure to pay the first instalment of the transfer fee for Emiliano Sala to Nantes.

This week, Cardiff paid that first instalment, believed to be around £7m including interest, and we learned that the transfer embargoes had been lifted.

The EFL's transfer embargo is in two parts, meaning Cardiff are able to trade in this window, however they are only able to bring in loan players and free transfers. FIFA's criteria for their ban to be lifted has also been met, however Cardiff are still waiting for the official green light before they can get to work.

McGuinness has had a fantastic first half of the season at Sheffield Wednesday and the Bluebirds were keen to recall him.

Speaking about the 22-year-old's situation, Hudson said: "Yeah, he's back training. We're just waiting on a technicality with FIFA for the moment, so that hasn't come through yet as of yet. We're still waiting on an update but he is back with us, training."

Asked for further clarification on the FIFA embargo, the Bluebirds boss added: "The club have worked extremely hard to pay the instalment and I think there's a period of time where then FIFA will lift theirs and obviously then, that would go hand in hand with Macca's (McGuinness) situation.

MARK HUDSON:

"We worked really hard behind the scenes to get that lifted. And we'll we'll know more today, I would think."

McGuinness has certainly impressed up at Hillsborough, hitting form for the promotion-chasing League One side and he has been a regular in Darren Moore's team.

Coming back down to Cardiff will be a different challenge for him, though, and he must now integrate with a totally new group halfway through the season.

"I spoke to Macca regularly, even when he was in Sheffield, I used to do his reviews and go through it with him," Hudson continued.

"He came in yesterday. So we had good conversations about the time he's had and what was required from him up there, the three main things he was working on and how he was playing within that team.

"There'll be a lot of video footage for him to see about what we've been doing and how we've been doing it. So we'll sit with him and go through that as well, which is again about learning because it's a different way of playing in a different team.

"He's got to gel. He's had to travel down. So yeah, there's lots of little little bits that we can get him up to speed with and get them integrated with this group because it's a new group for him.

FIFA and EFL lift Cardiff City transfer embargo as Bluebirds now free to make signings this month after paying £7million, first instalment of money owing for Emiliano Sala which Nantes FC will receive.

Cardiff City have had their transfer embargo lifted.

Cardiff have paid the first instalment of the £15million ( now £20 million with interest and court fees) transfer fee, which was initially £5.3million but has risen to around £7million due to interest.

Re: MARK HUDSON:

Cardiff City are finally able to trade in the January transfer window after FIFA and the EFL lifted embargoes which put a total ban on the club's ability to register new players.

The EFL assert the club were notified of the embargo more than 30 days, Cardiff are able to register new players but are unable to pay fees for them for the next three windows.
But that will suit this Regime.

The EFL assert the club were notified of the embargo more than 30 days

Cardiff will be operating within this transfer window by bringing in only free transfers and loans.

Cardiff this week paid Nantes FC the first instalment of the fee for Argentine striker Emiliano Sala, believed to be worth £7m including interest, after they had been hit with a three-window transfer ban.

The payment to Nantes meant FIFA lifted their embargo. However, the EFL's embargo is slightly more complex.

Essentially, for want of a better phrase, there are two parts to the EFL embargo. The first is fairly straightforward and falls in line with FIFA's stipulations: If a transfer fee is not paid then a club cannot register any new players.

Of course, just like the FIFA ban, the criteria for that has been satisfied with the aforementioned payment to Nantes this week.

The second part of this embargo, though, is important for how Cardiff are able to go about their business.

The EFL rule that if an embargo has been in place for more than 30 days then the club are prohibited from paying a fee for a player for three windows.

As we understand it, the EFL assert the club were notified of the embargo more than 30 days before paying the £7m to Nantes this week and therefore this particular part of the ban has not yet been lifted. Talks, however, are going on behind the scenes in a bid to find a solution.

What it essentially means for the time being is that Cardiff are able to register new players but are unable to pay fees for them for the next three windows.

This second part of this transfer ban was implemented to stop rogue clubs overpaying with no intention of forking out full fees for players. However, it is perfectly fair to say, the legislation was not designed to accommodate such a complicated case as the Cardiff-Nantes dispute over Sala. That remains unique in world football.

While the EFL have confirmed to us that Cardiff are no longer under an embargo, they do not comment on the specifics of each club's case.

But we have learned that Cardiff will be operating within this transfer window by bringing in only free transfers and loans. While some might be concerned that loans may be difficult due to Cardiff being unable to pay a loan fee, it is understood that, post-Covid and with Premier League sides more sympathetic to Championship clubs' financial struggles, that is not as prohibitive as it once might have been. Top-flight sides are more concerned with getting good league experience for their players as opposed to the paltry fee they might receive for their services.

The loan market is a difficult one to trade within and there are a lot of moving parts. The domino effect of a Premier League club buying a player only for them to send another out on loan plays its part in these mid-season windows.

That being said, the Bluebirds are hopeful of bringing in two or three players, largely to bolster their forward line. Attacking midfield, striker and winger are all options being considered, with the club having had targets lined up for when the embargoes were lifted.

By Glen Williams:

“Cardiff are not that worried as they think they have a good squad and put a lot of effort into getting 17 players in the summer. But are hopeful of adding quality to stave off relegation this season.”

“ Some will be concerned loan fees will prove prohibitive (as I was). But I am told that is not as big a worry as it once was.”

“PL clubs sympathetic to Champ clubs' financial situations post-Covid. They prefer players to get right loans rather than receive relatively meagre fees.”

here’s a possibility that Jack Leahy will go on loan to a Cymru Premier side as the club are limited to 8 ‘cross border loans’. If The Bluebirds don’t use all 8 slots Leahy will move to an English club.

Bit of a waiting game at the moment…

New Targets?

We have got targets. We know that. I’m not going to talk about players who are at clubs at the moment. If there’s availability and it strengthens us and brings good characters in the building.

That’s obviously something that’s been well published, we need a goal threat. We did well in the Leeds game with what we’ve been working on.

But if there’s someone out there we think can help us score goals we will look at it for sure.

There are players out there. There’s always going to be interest from other clubs.

We are in the process of looking at it for a while. They have to have good characters in. If it can be done we will look at it.

I presume the next 3 windows takes us up to summer 2024?, does this mean that it can only be loan and free agents we can get. Is it basement bargains again?

I would take a guess that VT will be happy with that situation. You would think if an embargo is lifted then its lifted not half way in between.

Things can change before the next Window if the Hierarchy pay the next instalment off which is now 2 yrs late, but don’t do this at the last moment like they Did this time as they were given 30 days notice.

Bluebirds looking to add a 'goal threat' this month

Mark Hudson wants to add more "goal threat" to his squad this month after Cardiff City were given the go ahead to start chasing their transfer targets this month.

The club had been subjected to a transfer embargo in this window, owing to the ongoing dispute over paying the first instalment of the Emiliano Sala transfer fee to Nantes.

Cardiff this week paid that money, believed to be around £7m, and the transfer embargoes have been lifted. The EFL's transfer embargo is in two parts, meaning Cardiff are able to trade in this window, however they are only able to bring in loan players and free transfers.

FIFA's criteria for their ban to be lifted has also been satisfied, however Cardiff are still waiting for the official green light before they can get to work, but Hudson said the club have "got the go ahead to explore options" in the market.

"It's a relief, gives people a lift, I would imagine," Hudson said of the embargoes being lifted. "And we can look forward to what we can look at target-wise and see if we can strengthen.

"We've got targets. I'm not going to talk about players at the moment, I think it's unfair on their clubs. So if there's availability and it strengthens us and brings good characters into the building, we'll try and explore that."
