‘ Cardiff City player returns / Very Good news ‘

Fri Jan 06, 2023 9:42 am

Cardiff City are recalling Mark McGuinness. Has won Sheffield Wednesday's Player of the Month for November and December and has certainly impressed.

He'll be available for their FA Cup tie with Newcastle tomorrow before returning to Cardiff next week.

Mark McGuinness will be available for Cardiff City v Wigan match a week Saturday.

After playing for Cardiff 34 times in the Championship last season, how the hell was he sent out on loan this season??

Could never ever understand Morison letting Mark McGuinness leave on loan and delighted City are recalling. He's good in the air, in the tackle, on the ball and reasonably quick, too.

What's not to like? Always thought

Agree he's still young and improving all the time

Glad he's returning, especially with Romeo being out. Can move Ng to RB now

Needs to go straight into the side against Wigan

Most on here were happy to see him go out on loan at the time because although he had obvious ability he had a few mistakes in him too. A run of games is just what he needed and the challenge for him now is to bring this new found consistency to a higher level. This may well also mean NG can revert to a right WB.

I was one and most agreed a loan would be best with a recall. Worked well with wintle and I think mcguiness will make a similar impact.

Welcome back Mark a future captain in the making

I don’t understand why we are letting him play in the FA cup against Newcastle for Sheff Wed, not that we will progress in the FA cup, (fingers crossed we will), but if we do then he’ll be cup tied. If he’s coming back then it makes no sense to let him play.

Stupid decision.

He has already played for them in the first two rounds so is cup tied anyway but still risking him getting injured by playing this game

Of course he did, that explains it, cheers fella but yes you’re right, why risk him getting injured before he comes back

Mark McGuinness talks planned:

Sheffield Wednesday manager Darren Moore says losing Mark McGuinness would be a "blow" for the Owls and says talks will take place with Cardiff tomorrow.

The centre-back will return to south Wales after the FA Cup clash with Newcastle United. The defender has enjoyed a stellar stint in League One and his loss is a setback for Moore.

"First and foremost, we have the game to conclude tomorrow (Saturday)," he responded today.

"After the game, both clubs have agreed to have a chat. If he is to go back, it's a blow. But for me, my message is we should be full of joy in terms of what he brought to the football club.

"He has been absolutely tremendous, he does what it says on the tin and he ticks our boxes in terms of recruitment.

"He's improved as a player, without a doubt and taking to it like a duck to water in terms of how he's been received by the football club. Most importantly, his performances have been getting stronger and stronger.

"If he goes back, he goes back with our full blessing. We thank him for his time here and I personally thank him for our time working together.

"He can play (tomorrow). There's always been an agreement and we always thought we'd reached the end of it and that is in agreement (recall option). Yes, they may call him back or there may be a possibility of him staying. If they are to call him back (after) tomorrow, then we are happy in terms of his contribution.”

Glad he's coming back in the form he is in and with some more development. But a part of me thinks he should see out his entire loan with Wednesday.

If he's developing well, with good momentum we should let him stay there and carry on the way he is so he can return an even better player than he is now.

Instead of coming back to this current circus, it's just going to ruin what he's got going for him at the minute. It's not as if we are short of centre backs. Simpson and especially Nelson have to pull their socks up because if they did we wouldn't have to recall Mark.

I hope I'm wrong, but Mark coming back is just going to slow his development down

We are short on RBs though. With Romeo potentially out for 4-6 weeks, NG will have to shift over to RB. If it wasn't for Romeos injury I'd agree with you. But I think we need someone with Marks physical presence - in both boxes.

Keown singing his praises too. Well done Mark and welcome back. He, Vaulks and briefly Paterson were exceptional.

He played out his skin tonight. Looks like the loan was the best thing that could have happened for him.
I just feel he doesn't really want to come back here, not that I blame him.

Looked outstanding tonight. Wins all his headers and seems to have improved his passing too. He will bring height back to the team that has been lacking in both boxes. Our set piece outcomes have to be the worst in the league and he can certainly help improve this by winning the first ball for others. He scored three goals last year too. I hope he he can come back like Wintle and be as important to the team.

Perhaps he doesn't want to come back.He got some stick while he was here and he's doing well atm. I know some won't be happy with me saying this but they are a bigger club than us despite their league position atm .Being happy and first choice counts alot for a player. This business about chatting doesn't sit that well with me.

This is simple he is our player and we could do with him back so Perry can get back tonight back. Just like wintle a good move to have a recall clause. Now for him to kick on his career with us
