Gutted: " Sean Morrison " Cardiff City let him go

" Sean Morrison "

"I want to put on record Sean will be leaving. I’ve had long conversations with Sean, he has been here for eight and a half years. Promotion. Won player of the season. A huge influence. He created some amazing environments for players in the dressing room. So welcoming to everyone around the club. He’s been a huge influence and I want to wish him all the very best going forward.

I think he can get back up to speed. It was a huge injury at a disappointing time in his career. I’ve told him he can get fitter and stronger."

Club legend Sean Morrison to leave Cardiff City after more than eight years as Bluebirds make statement

The 31-year-old played almost 300 games for the Bluebirds and enjoyed a promotion to the Premier League

Sean Morrison will leave Cardiff City after eight-and-a-half years

Sean Morrison will leave Cardiff City following the expiration of his return-to-play contract, the club have confirmed.

The former Bluebirds skipper signed for the club in 2014 and played 295, winning promotion to the Premier League back in 2018.

The centre-back, 31, sustained an ACL injury back in February 2022 and had undergo surgery to rectify the problem and his contract ran out in the summer, during his rehabilitation.

Morrison played three games for the under-21s over the last few months as he worked his way back to fitness, with Mark Hudson previously stating that conversations were to be had over the player's future.

However, it has been decided that Morrison, a bona fide fan favourite in this corner of the world, will move on to pastures new after eight-and-a-half years with the club and Hudson wanted to place on record his thanks.

"I want to put on record Sean will be leaving," Hudson said. "I’ve had long conversations with Sean, he has been here for eight and a half years. He captained the club for six of them, played 300 games, scored 33 goals, won promotion, won Player of the Season in 2017/18.

"He has been a huge influence on and off the pitch. He created some amazing environments in dressing rooms for players to come into. He has always been so welcoming to everyone around the club, fans, players, staff. He’s been a huge influence and I want to wish him all the very best going forward. He has got years to play.

"I think he can get back up to speed. It was a huge injury at a disappointing time in his career. I’ve told him he can get fitter and stronger and he will have many years playing the game.

"We had conversations and ultimately the decision has been made. We were open, honest and I wanted to involved him in all those conversations. That's why I'm here telling everyone he is highly regard and I wish him all the very best going forward."

It's a shame and possibly linked to the recent embargo. While we don't know the status of Morrisons' fitness, I would like to have thought he could have gone into CB, and we could've free'd Ng up as a fullback.

Good luck, Morrison! Some great memories, a great captain, and I am sure you will make an excellent signing for somebody else :bluescarf:

We can sign Sean Morison, so nothing to do with Embargo, i thought we might sign more because of that.

If we signed him it would mean unless we got rid of someone else we wouldn't be able to being anyone else in to "staff up " I think it's the right decision, it's not defenders we need we are crying out for strikers-goal scoring midfielders , remember we brought zohore in on a embargo originally form tans other club in Belgium.

Think it's more to do with the space he'd take up in the squad which will impact us signing anyone else whilst under embargo.
If choice was mozza or someone attacking I'd definitely go for the latter

Thanks for the memories Sean,a great servant for our club.
Bad injury at a bad time in in his career and unfortunately coming back fit our club is in a bad place.
All the best Skip :notworthy:

One of Ole’s better signings :occasion5:

Really sad to see him go, he gave us everything.

However, probably best for both him and the club. I can’t see him playing in a team that wants centre backs to start the play and his lack of pace would now be an issue in a back 4 nowadays.

I’d rather have McGuinness back.

All that said, nothing should gloss over what a great player he has been for us. He was a leader and that part of his game will be difficult to replace.

Sad to see him go and he's given his all for the club as he said. Hope he is happy in whatever he decides to do: it must be a difficult and sad time for him. I'll always remember his partnership with Sol and especially one moment when a defensive mix up between them led to an own goal. After the ball went in they were both collapsed on the turf laughing at the comedy of their own error - wonderful moment. Good luck Sean.

Sean Morrison was already one of the players in our 22 man squad. Now that he has left the club we have 2 spare places if we want to have a full entitlement of 23.

Great player and leader for us. I think this is the right decision though. Our defence is alright. If we can only bring in a limited number of players, it has to a striker or creative player.

Just seen Max Watters has gone out on loan to Barnsley for the rest of the season so I think that we now have room to bring in 3 players.

Sorry for the way it ended for Sean but when you have a young CH pulling up trees in league one and possibly looking to send Nelson on loan it makes no sense to give him a contract.
