Colwill dazzles with stunning free-kick
Rubin Colwill handed Cardiff boss Mark Hudson a timely reminder of his capabilities with a stunning free-kick for City's under-21s against Sunderland.
The 20-year-old struck just after the half-hour mark in Cardiff's Premier League Cup clash with the Wearsiders, bamboozling visiting goalkeeper Jacob Carney with a sublime set-piece effort from 30 yards.
James Crole netted a second midway through the second half to make sure of the win, with Colwill replaced 13 minutes from time by Jai Semenyo.
Colwill's season has been hampered by injury so far, although he was part of Rob Page's Wales squad for the World Cup campaign in Qatar, and came on during the latter stages of the 3-0 defeat to England.
He has since been limited to coming off the bench in the draws with Stoke City and Blackpool, and this performance will likely intensify calls for him to be handed a bigger role over the coming weeks, with Cardiff facing a crucial run of games as they bid to try and elevate themselves away from the drop zone.
When quizzed recently on whether Colwill might soon be in line for a start, Hudson said: "We have to manage the group and see what we can do with selection. He has missed a lot of football. He is someone we don’t want to risk.
"There is a plan for every individual. There is an importance on every day. The players are all driving to get on the pitch. They have got to earn the right to get in the team, everyone is trying to do that."
