THE APPARENT ENIGMA THAT IS RUBIN COLWILL

Sat Dec 17, 2022 7:41 pm

On the way out today, I was rueing another poor Bluebird result at home, despite an overall performance I thought deserved all three points and the inevitabilty of yet another rubbish player (maybe THE worse?) player returning to the CCS and scoring a (still) rare goal...

I could go on about that particular player but he's not worth the space other than to note the amount of abuse he took when poncing up the sideline 'doing a Ronaldo' in front of the home support

Of more concern was considering the best role for Rubin Colwill in a Mark Hudson team that is (a) not set up to accommodate him to the best of his ability, and (b) seemingly not prepared to give him a chace; even taking his recent 'issues' into account

I am of the opinion that to Mark Hudson, Rubin Colwill is an enigma for Mark Hudson; someone he doesn't know how to get the best out of in any given game

For me, it's hurting the team and hurting the progression of what could be our biggest developing talent right now. He's played at the World Cup!

I'm sure some will disagree, but I'd like to know what others think on the progress of Rubin so far and how he has been 'handled' by maybe more than one manager... :ayatollah:

The boy has talent whether he ever becomes good enough for any manager to to have a formation to suit him personally I’m not too sure .But what I’ve seen of his younger brother I’ve been mightily impressed ,wants the ball and moves into space.Has a maturity about his game for such a young lad that is really impressive ,one to watch that’s for sure :ayatollah:

If a big offer comes n for him I would 100% sell him , I'm not sure what his position is tbh , the Blackpool commentary said he's a 6ft 3 beast of a winger .anyone know what his position is ? .

Poor from Hudson.Pushing him out wide.He should be playing in the no 10 role for more than 10 minutes.

Until we see him play more than a few minutes, we'll never know. I think it is worrying that he is deemed good enough to play in a World Cup albeit a cameo, but seemingly has no place in a struggling Championship side... Just give the guy a chance - maybe ask him what he thinks his best position is and play him there even if it is from the bench initially - its not rocket science...

You just described half of the Wales squad.

It seems to be a problem that Hudson as? He cannot commit to a settled side playing players in best positions... colwill needs to play from start we simply cannot ask him to come on and change a game in 15mins like he as been asked to do all season ..... centre midfield looks to be best for him so play him there. :old:

No idea what to think of him.

6ft 3in? Old fashion centre forward.

Re: THE APPARENT ENIGMA THAT IS RUBIN COLWILL

What is he?

I see a player who gives the ball away a lot and doesn’t do much when he keeps it.

He’s had one good performance (QPR).

When Ramsey played for us as a 16 year old he glided past championship players and had time. When he came back on loan he dominated games. Granted that’s a massively high bar but Colwill just doesn’t look better than anyone else. In fact he looks a lot worse. Not sure what the fuss is.

The fact he played in the World Cup says a lots about Wales’ lack of options really.

Kevin Davies years ago was a talented youth winger, inside forward, centre mid. Nobody knew what his best position was. After several big money moves he ends up at Bolton centre forward and should have played for England.

Play him at 10 and give him a run of games. Can he honestly do any worst? Losing picking up the odd point we need 3 points asap.
We play loades of kids last year end up mid table. Blooded ready to push on this year. Whst do we do bring in some good and bad players through the summer discard the kids and now we fighting off relegation. I think we need more of a blend between the two.
Youngsters needs competive games colwill and others play him at 10.

I was told a while ago he isn't happy at the club and doesn't want to here anymore, fact.

Robinson played 10 today and played well so yeah he could do worse.

Thats my opion mate. Robinson was my man otm today and should have scored. Just remember there 9 positions he can play in and thats down to the manager. If we were winning every game 5 nil i would see you point. We have a lack of quality and we need to utilise the players we have if they need to play in different positions so be it. We need results. If you try you wont know.

I have said before, but if I was Rubin I'd be out ASAP. This is a car crash of a club and why waste time with this lot

Allan, it's true and we can name them; lots of them...!

It is creditable that Rubin got game time at the World Cup, which was for me, a 'farewell and thank you' tour for the bulk of the squad

Why else would you have taken certain players (Johnny Williams being the most notable conclusion amongst several unfit ones) who had (admirably) taken Wales places in recent years?

Knocking him in a Welsh shirt now is rather churlish; and pointless... :ayatollah:

Chris Some people love to knock city players even when there is no reason to... agree about Williams Gunter another one... what I dont understand is why play bale from start when it was obvious he was not match fit and hasnt been for a long time... Rambo only bit better his problem is page playing him in wrong position... anyway only Rambo & GB should be kept out of OAPs ... but GB in particular needs to sort out priorities otherwise should retire.

As far as I’m concerned Rubin colwill is a good player I don’t understand why he is not one of the main players in the team the lad should be the first name on the team sheet every time he comes on he makes things happen morrisonwho pushed to get him in the first team when mick macarthy was manger suddenly decided to keep putting him on the bench know Hudson does the same he scored a cracker of a goal against qpr last season turned a few games our way I’m baffled by the way some of our mangers in recent times have treated some of our players I don’t think the problem is with the players I think the coaching staff maybe not good enough and it starts with Hudson got nothing personal against mark Hudson but it does make you wonder where are we going

I have said it before and will say it again.
We don't know what happens on the training pitch but there seems to be a lot of white noise around this young lad which is mostly down to some on here thinking he is the next Rambo or is it just desperation to see someone local coming through the ranks?

If he wasn’t a cardiff lad what justification would you have for any of that?

Sawyers has scored two class goals this year. Why ain’t he in the team?

We aren’t making the same point. Colwill cannot be selected on a performance he had last year. He has looked like a headless chicken constantly.
