January Transfer window…?

"I go back to what I said last week. We go back to what we can and can’t do. We look at the squad we’ve got today and the squad we can put out Saturday."

Mark Hudson

Mark Hudson:

“Having Ebou Adams and Isaak Davies back in January will be liking having two new players in January.”
“We have a quality and big squad going in to January.”

The Bluebirds have won just two in their last nine matches and are in desperate need of three points against Blackpool

But Hudson now believes the 17 players brought in last Summer, after now nearly 30 games including Championship, Cup and friendlies need more time to settle in.

Hudson’s Cardiff City side face a Blackpool side near the bottom and without a win in their last 5 games including 4 defeats. City will be looking for nothing but a win against the Seasiders.

MARK HUDSON:

This weekend, could be in the relegation zone over Xmas. That part of team talk?

We spoke before Stoke about the importance of points. The character we showed there to get a result, but we got a point.

Coming back here, everyone is sticking together. With the fans behind us we know they want us to win a game.

Mark Hudson

Four attacking subs there you had at Stoke?

Yeah, that’s what we have got. The players are ready and raring to go. To be that warm and making an impact, it was great. It shows their readiness and the work they’ve done.

Training - had to train at CCS…

The whole country is in the same boat. We tried to give the pitch at the training ground as long as we could, pushed it back an hour and it wasn’t possible to get on, but we had to train.

We approached training the same as what we would have done at the training ground. The ground staff helped us get training on.

Colwill came back, came on Saturday, enough to start?

We have to manage the group and see what we can do with selection. He has missed a lot of football. He is someone we don’t want to risk.

There is a plan for every individual.

There is an importance on every day. The players are all driving to get on the pitch. They have got to earn the right to get in the team, everyone is trying to do that.

Mark Hudson:

Isaak Davies will be fully fit for January and with Ebou Adams also coming back in January, Hudson said it will be like having new signings as neither have played so far this season.

Mark Hudson: “Ebou Adams has something in his knee that needs tidying up.

"He has a tiny little flake that was just rubbing away at the tendons. It's just a clean-up, really.”

"I would have to speak to the physios (about how long it will set him back), but he is going for [the clean-up] today. So I am hoping for some news after.”

"But that was just holding him back on the rehab. They found it, which was great. It'll be just a tidy-up and he will be like a new signing in January as well."

“We have a quality squad going in to January.”

Isaak and Sean…?

Unfortunately the game got called off. They were supposed to get minutes tomorrow and that’s got called off. It’s about being adaptable. They need minutes and it’s of huge importance to them. They need to get their minutes, the game situation is needed.

It’s that contact, that unconscious bit of the game, we need to get minutes into their legs. Hopefully it works up this weekend, to rearrange the games for next week and that’s the plan for them.

We speak every day. We are in constant dialogue. He has boxes to tick. He has been out nine months. It was a bad one. He has put himself in a position to complete his 90s and there are open conversations between us.

How important was the point at Stoke?

We sat down after the Sheff U game and there’s been a long time since that loss. But to come back and earn the right to take a point from Stoke. There was an abundance of character. But we looked a bit rusty in the first half.

We addressed it at half time and took it on from there, took our opportunities and a point was fair.

We were straight in after Stoke to prepare for Blackpool. We had some open conversations and an open environment for them all to have an input. They are on the pitch. We have owned it all together.

Callum Robinson, he is having a big influence?

We know what we got into the building. He is big around the dressing room, had a big impact on those around him.

We knew what we were getting. Others do need to add to that. We need to take responsibility across the board.

Callum and Kion have had conversations, Kion looks at Robbo in training and sees the quality he has. Robbo has a big influence.

Showed character at Stoke - how were players after?

We came back in and debriefed the game. There are certain aspects in the first half the team weren’t happy with. We addressed it at half-time and the subs made an impact.

Mark Hudson reveals 'open' talks with Vincent Tan about Cardiff City's plight as he demands players be more 'ruthless'

The Bluebirds have won just two in their last nine matches and are in desperate need of three points against Blackpool

But Hudson now believes the 17 players brought in last Summer, after now nearly 30 games including Championship, Cup and friendlies need more time to settle in.

By Glen Williams Cardiff City correspondent

THURSDAY 15 DEC 2022

Mark Hudson has called for his goal-shy Cardiff City players to be more "ruthless" and ease the burden on Callum Robinson ahead of this weekend's important clash with Blackpool.

The Bluebirds are the Championship's joint-lowest scorers this term, having netted just 19 goals so far this term. They have won just two of their last nine games and could be in the bottom three if results go against them this weekend.

MARK HUDSON:

"I think we have created a lot of opportunities at home and we have talked about being ruthless," Hudson said ahead of the visit of the Seasiders. "We have created those opportunities to be ruthless.

"That's something we work on at training and in the meeting rooms. That has to be between games and within games, where we can build momentum, be more expansive and pick and choose when we find the gaps.

"There are moments we can defend from front to back and moments we can be compact. We are creating chances and that's a positive sign."

The one shining light in that forward line so far this season has been Callum Robinson, whose numbers stack up nicely with four goals and four assists in his 11 outings for the men in blue.

"We knew what we were getting," he said of Robinson, "but others do need to add to that. It needs to be shared.

"For him and his form, it's great, but we need to take responsibility across the board to take those situations. Kion [Etete] came on and almost scored with at the front post and with a header (at Stoke). Everyone is pushing."

The January transfer window is around the corner, a little more than a fortnight away, and it seems talks are still ongoing as to what might be possible in terms of player recruitment in the new year.

However, with 17 players having come in throughout the summer, it might be a case of allowing the players who are in the building to gel together in hope of it clicking into place.

Hudson added: "Talking about the players I've got in the building, I trust every single one of them. They are good human beings. They put everything they have got into games. You can never look at our squad and think that no-one is trying.

"We talk about character. Fight, I talk about it lots. They are working their hardest and they are gelling. Seventeen new players come into any building, a full squad flip, it's not something that happens overnight.

"They are getting used to each other, they are demanding more from each other. That can't only come from us, it has to come from within.

"There is a togetherness which grows over a period of time. It's like any working environment, it'll take a while to get used to each other, strengths and weakness, loud or quiet ones. The trust and belief grows week in, week out."

The last time Vincent Tan spoke to the press at the beginning of November, he still held a hope of Cardiff embarking on a winning streak and charge up the table, with pay-offs clearly in his crosshairs.

It's not quite worked out like that as we approach the mid-point of the season this weekend. But with such a squad overhaul in the summer, does Tan appreciate that this is a season of transition?

"The demands are what they are," Hudson said. "An owner wants their club to do well and their team to perform. We know that and I know the demands of this league and demands we put on the players and they are accepting of those.

"We need more results and we know that. We have played well enough to get results in games and we've not got them. We are trying to be ruthless in games, it's so important because we have created those moments.

"We speak openly about it. Seventeen new players coming into a building aren't expected to come in and win every game and be top of the league. But there are moments in games we should be better in and should have done better.

"If we perform to our levels, we can be dangerous to opposition teams. We know the importance of points."

We are shy on goalscorers granted
but i would have thought that we would have a tight defence
As hudson is a defence coach it would be interesting to know the stats on how much our defence has improved since hudsons arrival even before getting the mangers job

' Blackpool hit hard with injuries '

Blackpool will be without eight of their first team players this weekend.

Blackpool have lost 4 of their last 5 games and not won a game for 5 games.

'Something I've never experienced before': Michael Appleton addresses Blackpool's injury situation ahead of Cardiff City test

Speaking last week, head coach Michael Appleton revealed he’s not expecting any of the seven to be back involved until the New Year.

“It’s something I’ve never experienced before,” he told The Gazette.

“Sometimes it can be the difference between winning and losing games, going on good runs and having good periods.

“As a manager you get judged on results, not necessarily performances, and sometimes the reality is having so many players out can have a big bearing on these things. It can be the difference between success and failure.

Michael Appleton will be without eight first-team players once again this weekend
“You have to park that and put it to bed, because the important thing is the players that can affect what is in front of you.”

When asked if there is a clear and obvious reason for Blackpool’s injury woes this season, Appleton added: “No, not really. There’s loads of factors that come into play.

“I can assure you, we’ve gone through all the data and looked back at various scenarios and clearly there are lots of things that suggest it could be this, it could be that.

“There is a wide difference in the injuries we’re getting, it’s not like they’re all soft tissue injuries where you could look at pitches, the weather etc or whether it’s the boots the players are wearing.

“But we’ve got such a wide range of injuries it’s difficult to pinpoint one thing.”

Blackpool know they can leapfrog this weekend’s opponents in the league table with a win, with only two points separating the two sides in the league table.

Cardiff returned from the break with a 2-2 draw away to Stoke City, leaving them in 20th place.
