£13k of taxpayers money on his trip to the world cup,I don't the that's right him doing that the way things are

Re: O/T Drakeford spends

Mon Dec 05, 2022 4:50 pm

Wouldnt worry about it as its what WG do best and that's waste money on vanity projects :D

Re: O/T Drakeford spends

Mon Dec 05, 2022 4:53 pm

Unfortunately the majority he holds in the WAG means that he can do whatever the f**k he likes no matter what any of us may think.

Criminal waste of taxpayers money. Will love to see exactly how much money is generated through foreign investment as a result of those two fools taking a pre Christmas jolly at our expense. Did he tell off those naughty Qataris over their human rights abuses?

I can't seem to recall the news that they've changed their entire culture because Drakeford and Gething have told them to. Must have missed that.

Re: O/T Drakeford spends

Mon Dec 05, 2022 4:58 pm

My understanding of them going was to shed light on human rights abuses and to change the Qatari views and culture. Did he achieve any of that? Do they have transgender flags painted on the floors of their capital city and flying from their castles now, like us?

He'll come back boasting Qatar airlines will fly from Cardiff next year? While holding a national pride day for camels...:D

A drop in the ocean, IF he did some work behind the scenes that benefits Wales and/or makes a point to the Qatari Givernment

Chris we all know Qatar will play lip service to him and quietly ignore him.... it's been said the team being in Qatar is worth more than any trade mission can bring .. the point really is the cost worth the benefits it will bring thats very questionable..... Qatar airlines as already hinted it will return at some stage... no doubt MD will put a glossy spin on trip like all politicians do ... at end day he shouldn't have gone but since when does he listen to anyone except himself in mirror? :o

Allan, I don't agree he shouldn't have gone but the 'value' of it in non-monetary terms may not become apparent for some time, if at all

Mark Drakeford is a sporting man and frequently watches events in Cardiff with his family, including Glamorgan cricket

He’s also cost Wales and Contractors millions on projects that never got off the ground.. so in that context, he’s done well.

Sporting man cricket rugby but not football never goes to ccs? He changed his mind twice about why he was going although in Qatar he did manage to see one game probably to busy to watch Wales play more than once....!! he was there apparently overseeing the 2m spent on exhibitions to promote Wales to the usa and maybe other countries although other than usa no other countries were mentioned by WG... but economist said openly that Wales being in Qatar did more for promoting Wales than any politician can do... I get the trade minister going because englands did but what was the nessesity of him ignoring his leader.... chris hes an opportunist seeking any way to boost his profile? :o

Not only his trip. We have an office out there too. Which, like Dripfords trip has never raised LGBTQ issues with the Qataris. Money wasted left right and centre by the Senedd.

From WOL
A separate Freedom of Information request by the Welsh Liberal Democrats also shows that the Welsh Government office in Qatar has never been used to promote human rights in the country.

This is despite in a previous reply to Welsh Liberal Democrat calls to close the office, the Welsh Government stating: “We believe in engaging with countries that do not always share our values on human rights, LGBTQ+ rights, workers’ rights and political and religious freedom. Engaging with countries is an opportunity to develop a platform for further discussion, to raise awareness, and to potentially influence a change in approach.”

The FOI response shows that despite the above statement, the Welsh Government's presence in Qatar has not been used to “further discussion” nor “potentially influence a change” beyond holding a single online event on International Women's Day in 2021.

A sporting man who prohibited golfers playing alone on acres of land during covid? He’s a delusional, ideologue Nutter. You are allowed to criticise the politicians you voted for you know.

Hmmm nows there a dilemma?
Would we as fans welcome a horrid regime such as Qatar and their lack of human rights etc etc etc as new owners of our club?
Bit o/t but was wondering without being negative.
As for Drakeford.... I can't wait to hear him and Guessings comments on this jolly after leaving Wales and particularly his Health Minister in the poop.

Of course; but equally we have the right to see petty stone throwing. Drakeford and his team thought long and hard before committing to the trip because they knew the vitriol that would come their way...and it did

BTW Drakefords latest crackpottery is to provide tampons free of charge in the Senedd male toilets, for those that need them     . Forget failing education, heaith, and infrastructure , forget rising crime. Womens sanitary products in mens toilets are his priority.

Useful for a nose bleed I would imagine, but would that warrant the need and cost?

What was he expectingThe AMs waving him off at airport ? He defied his leader and as he said it was important for the leader of a country competing in WC to go really!! .. like said a vanity trip "look at me I'm important" if it was about buisness wasnt the trade minister sufficient or competent enough to handle a trade stand without his boss holding his hand? But there again he is a control freak so suppose he had to keep the minister in eye sight in case he did some buisness and he didn't get the credit for it... :laughing6:

No dilemma at all. The answer is yes.

Where does this "we are holier than thou" position come from? We talk about human rights; we're currently extraditing a journalist to the United States solely for exposing war crimes.

Our country has also been responsible for invading countries across the Middle East and Africa for Centuries.

The same goes for the US and more.

All true but we live in the meaningless virtue signalling era so it’s a bit rich to preach Wokery then visit a repressive regime like Qatar.

No, and for the record I didn't vote for him or his Labour cronies; with my particular concern being Vaughan Gethin as the heir apparent

I just don't think it was the big deal some are making it, as there are far more important things to concern us IN WALES itself...

The topic is Drakeford, his failings don’t excuse the incompetence and graft in Westminster
