Leeds United legend warns them over Cardiff rivalry
Leeds United legend Tony Dorigo has warned his former side about the rivalry they have with Cardiff City and says they should underestimate the Bluebirds at their peril.
One of the most memorable nights at Ninian Park came almost 21 years ago in the third round of the FA Cup, when Graham Kavanagh and a famous Scott Young goal helped City beat then Premier League leaders Leeds.
And the two sides will meet again in the FA Cup's third round, which has been moved to a 2pm kick-off on Sunday, January 8, and Dorigo believes Leeds, who are once again a top-flight outfit, will have a difficult game against a side they have failed to beat in their last five meetings.
“Cardiff City represents another difficult one and we have come unstuck a few times against so-called lesser opposition. I suppose the third round of the FA Cup is huge for lots of teams and of course when a so-called bigger boy comes to town they’ll give it absolutely everything”, Dorigo wrote in his
“Leeds can be under no illusion – this is going to be another very, very difficult game.
“Then of course you add in the rivalry of Cardiff-Leeds over the recent years, but we’ve got to do our utmost to make sure we get through because it feels like it’s about time that we did something in a cup competition.”
