‘ Cardiff have signed a really good player in January ‘

Wed Nov 30, 2022 3:11 pm

I can’t say who he is out of respect for the player and his family and our club.

But he’s a midfielder and 20 years old and City have beaten of a number of clubs.

On his day he will probably be potentially our most talented and gifted player.

He currently has a club, top flight.

Has scored a few great goals.

And none of the bullshit that the media made out that Ollie Tanner was amazing , nothing against him but the hype was beyond stupidity by our local media and Morison.

My guess is Lennon Peake from West Ham as believe hes been on trial. Heard promising things, but has had some back luck with injuries

I hope you’re right with this. It means we’re getting our business done nice and early.

After the PW7 game tonight I would say we have a number of very promising midfield youngsters ourselves coming through.

Watch out for Joel Colwill, he played like an experienced pro tonight against Prem opposition. I know it was only a friendly but some of his passing and movement was very natural.

Thought Tanner looked really good tonight. For me he has to be ahead of Ojo, I know it was just a friendly but to see a winger be direct, run at the defence was great to see.

I highly rate Joel Collwill. Joe in my view could even be better than Rubin.

I don’t rate Etete or Tanner as Championship players, last night was a very good friendly with Villa being very respectful.

I have watched Tanner about 6 times, he has pace, flair but missing the final bit that would make him a good player.

I agree on Tanner but I think Etete has got something.

think its unfair to judge Tanner, lad came from part time football, into a professional set up, he's not featured for the first team, and let's be honest, Ojo has been shocking, at 20/21 Tanner will improve, last night it was great seeing a winger run at a defence with the ball, whipped in some lovely crosses. and took his goal well. Etete looked like a totally different player last night, held the ball up well, movement was good, his positioning could be worked on, he found himself a few times outwide with the ball, and no one was in the box, and he was forced to come very deep to pick the ball up which should be addressed.

Tanners publicity was beyond so the expectations were very high.

If I am really honest o have not seen enough of Etete.

Don’t get me wrong, Etete isn’t the finished article but he’s young, quick and makes intelligent runs.

He also seemed to improve throughout the game and he was up against an England international centre back in the first half.

If young players have potential we need to give them a chance and Etete and Robinson might be worth a go as a pairing in my opinion.

I totally agree we need to give these players a chance, but the last few years the managers keep saying it then we hardly ever see these players play??

Yep, and Morison seemed to have his favourites and blind spots on others. Whilst I was a Morison supporter that was beginning to cause me concern.

He certainly should have been playing Colwill in all of those dead rubber games at the end of last season.

Let’s see what Hudson’s approach is but I think he’ll be encouraged by 3/4 performances on Wednesday and, maybe, he just needs introduce one at a time.

Etete will not reach his potential for another four or five years. The smaller nippier types may be 21/22 but not tall gangly things like him.

As for Tanner, how likely is it going to be for a kid from well below the national league to jump into the championship within 6 months? He is three years older than the scholars and that means he hasn't had the fitness regime of someone like Mark Harris since he was 16. On the plus side, we haven't coached the natural flair out of him. I doubt we will see him in the championship until we are safe later in the season, if at all this season.

Good point !!

I think Tanner looked as if he still needs a bit of extra conditioning work and he was blowing from about 20 mins onwards !!

I think that we underestimate the difference in basic fitness from players coming from non-league.
