Cardiff City boss Mark Hudson sat down to discuss Peter Whittingham’s match, and his memories of a much loved teammate.

MARK HUDSON:

“He was an unbelievable human being," Huds began. "Pete was someone who was loved by everyone. He was a huge importance to the football team as a player and as a character. Some of the celebrations that I witnessed in our time together whether it be on the pitch or off the pitch – there are so many great memories and he is dearly missed.

“He didn’t want any attention and you would see that with his celebrations. He would almost jog back to the halfway line saying the keeper should’ve saved it and some of them they would never have saved.

“He wouldn’t want the fuss of this game, and he would say that, as well. This is our chance to show our respect to a remarkable man and raise some money for PW7 Foundation.

“Everyone needs to come, old players that are coming back, everyone that I’ve spoke to that I’ve played with too. There’s going to be a huge support for the game and I think it needs to be that way.”

"I know it’s going to be a very difficult time, but to we want people to see what he meant to everyone involved at this football club. He meant so much to everyone. It’s going to be a tough day but a really important game."

Cardiff City Supporters Club have issued the following statement of support ahead of Peter Whittingham’s Memorial Match on November 30th.
A memorial match for one of our greats, Peter Whittingham, will be played on Wednesday 30th November 2022. To reflect the high regard in which Peter was held, the Supporters Club would like to back this event by trying to ensure a good attendance to show support for his family and help provide a fitting tribute to a player who dedicated a significant part of his playing career to Cardiff City Football Club and was one of the best players to wear a blue shirt for some considerable time.

To that end, the Supporters Club Committee has agreed to purchase a match ticket for each of its members with the intention of getting as many people to attend the game as possible. We appreciate that some supporters may have already purchased tickets, however this gesture is not intended to replace those tickets, but we would encourage members to use the extra ticket by inviting a family member or friend. Therefore, we are asking members not to request refunds for tickets already purchased.

These tickets will be available from the Cardiff City ticket office from Wednesday 16th November, and can be collected at any time on ticket office opening days (Tuesday, Wednesday & Friday 10am – 4pm). We would ask that members take their Supporters Club membership card when collecting tickets - you will require name, membership number and post code in order to collect.

We would also like to say a big thank you to the ticket office staff for their help with the distribution of tickets.

Thanks for your support.

Regards,

Cardiff City Supporters Club Committee
