Jason Cundy revealed he desperately wants Wales to finish bottom of their World Cup group and admitted he would rather see Iran progress than Rob Page's side.

The former Chelsea man was discussing the runners and riders of Group B and admitted it would be "funny" if Wales lost 5-0 to the United States of America in their opening fixture on Monday.

And when questioned by fellow radio show host Jamie O'Hara, Cundy said he had no desire to see the Red Dragons reach the knockout stages of the Qatar tournament.

“I’d love Wales to lose," Cundy said on Talksport. "I would love to come on here on Monday night, look up and see USA 5-0 Wales. How funny would that be?”

To which O'Hara interjected: "No, that's a disgrace." But Cundy added: “I’d rather Iran go through, England and Iran, that's it. Wales bottom, USA third. I don’t want Wales anywhere near the knockout stages, why would I?”


O'Hara concluded: "You can't do that to Wales." It comes after former Aston Villa forward Gabby Agbonlahor - speaking on the same radio station - claimed that not a single Welsh player would make England's best available 30-man squad.

"No Welsh player would get anywhere near England's best 30 players available," he said. "You only need four more. I'm thinking [Ivan] Toney before Bale. [Jarrod] Bowen...."

Obviously I want Wales to beat England , USA and Iran and Go forward as far as we can if not all the way, But I would like to see any British Team do well and go as far as they can in the tournament.
