OT: A HUGE THANK YOU TO THOSE WHO GAVE THEIR LIVES

Fri Nov 11, 2022 2:11 pm

Just like to say a huge thank you to the many brave souls who lost their lives in two world wars, many sent to certain death at incredibly young ages. Massive gratitude to one and all god rest your souls

Very true, it was a collective effort that brought us freedom as we know it today.

Well said.

You would think a forum with a poppy permanently displayed would make this a sticky.

That display is a huge credit to this board, however people pay their respects in many ways.

Sadly nothing changes, WW1 was supposed to be the last, the war that was so bad it would end war forever. Over a century later and we’re on the brink of armageddon. Fat rich old men make themselves richer by sending young men to die.

Spot on Jock, as the quote from Jean-Paul Sartre goes “when the rich wage war, it is the poor who lose their lives”

The General
BY SIEGFRIED SASSOON
“Good-morning, good-morning!” the General said
When we met him last week on our way to the line.
Now the soldiers he smiled at are most of 'em dead,
And we're cursing his staff for incompetent swine.
“He's a cheery old card,” grunted Harry to Jack
As they slogged up to Arras with rifle and pack.

But he did for them both by his plan of attack.

Ironically I feel sorry for those poor untrained and unfit Russian conscripts currently being fed into the meat grinder. Twenty seven million Russians perished in WW2 for a real cause, they bled the Wehrmacht white 85% of all German casualties were on the Eastern front. Look what they have now a midget gangster with a chip on his shoulder sending thousands to their doom.
